Regina Lee Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 She's 16 AGAIN........Well that's definitely a good way to look at it! I'm hoping to have a great day since Mike is taking a half-day off from work and we are going to see Carlos Santana and Los Lonely Boys tonight. A friend of mine scored some great tickets for the concert so a group of about twenty will be celebrating the night with me.Thanks for all the birthday wishes!Regina

Guest Mike Lee Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 Yes Chris, Anthony DOES like to tweak knobs. But what was it you were saying about pedals?
Regina Lee Posted July 2, 2005 Posted July 2, 2005 And a Happy Birthday it was . . . .The concert was everything I could have asked for (and more). First of all, we arrived at the venue early and to our suprise found that St. Elmo's Steakhouse (an Indianapolis dining institution) was selling steak sandwiches with horseradish sauce as well as their signature shrimp cocktail. Yeah, no hotdogs and nachos for this birthday girl. We were also able to follow dinner up with a few cones of Ritter's frozen custard. Yummy! As for the music, all I can say is WOW! The Salvador Santana Band opened the show and really set the tone. Great musicians and excellent music. The female lead vocalist was probably the biggest suprise of the group: a thin wispy redhead, but damn could that girl sing! Her voice reminded me of Clare Torry on Pink Floyd's Great Gig in the Sky.Next up were Los Lonely Boys. I think before the concert I had heard maybe two of their songs (both kind of pop-y), but these guys really have the Texican sound down. Sure you can hear the strong influences of SRV and other musicians, but the three brothers really have the energy and sometimes cheesy showmanship that really draw in the crowd. I think they were suprised when the started playing a little "new stuff" and the songs were greeted with huge applause and standing ovations. And then there was Santana. As a kid growing up in rural Illinois, I knew that I was Hispanic, but with my parents early divorce, I lacked any connection to culture. It was Carlos's music that changed that. So for me, seeing Santana in person is an emotional, cultural and spiritual event. I sang, I danced and I let myself just absorb the sound. It was amazing! Jingo, Yaleo, John Lee Hooker's Boogie Woman and even some songs that won't be released until September - Carlos and the ultra-talented backing band of keyboardists, percussionists, horns, etc. really delivered! I don't think I could have gotten a better birthday gift. Thanks to all of you for the birthday well wishes. This was definitely a one to remember!Regina
