JohnnyThunders Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 Anyone every play a 5 string guitar? Wonder how thry play and sound?
m chops Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 I keep a T-51 strung with only 5 strings and tuned open G a la Keef. It sounds like the Stones. Does that count?
copper blue Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 Didnt Chandler make a 5 string "Austin Special" back in the early 90s?
tomteriffic Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 One of my Specials is usually in Open G and I just 'forget' that the low D/E is there, a-la Keef. Very handy for Stones, slide and blues in general.
Mike_C Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 i think zematis made some for kieth and ron wood Yepper Greco Zemaitis has a version of it available. ZEMAITIS Wood Front 5 string \1,890,000 (18,153.47 USD) I like the guitar but not crazy about the price.
JohnnyThunders Posted March 10, 2005 Author Posted March 10, 2005 Cool but 18,000...wow. I picked-up a single hum, 5 string, Scott Ian Korina Jackson to try out.
ZR Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 I don't know anything about 5 string guitars. So, take it easy on me! What's the whole thought process of wanting to play with only 5 strings? What are the advantages? Couldn't you just remove one string?
serial Posted March 10, 2005 Posted March 10, 2005 The Chandlers were derivitaves of the Newman guitars that were made by a guy (named, oddly enough, Newman) who roadied for the Stones for a few tours and made guitars in Texas. The Chandlers used his design. Greg actually had one of the original Newmans in his shop a year or so back and it was an extremely cool guitar. Newman made some for Dylan and Petty as well.
