jerseydrew Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 When I play my Boogie MKIV, I don't use any pedals. When I play my Goodsell Super17, I use an Ibanez Tube Screamer and an RC Booster.
fractal Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Guitar -> cable -> amp Unless on a gig, then it's: Guitar -> volume pedal -> tuner -> amp What, no cables when you gig?
veatch Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Guitar -> cable -> amp Unless on a gig, then it's: Guitar -> volume pedal -> tuner -> amp What, no cables when you gig? LOL Yeah - a lot less hum and bad notes that way.
edgar_allan_poe Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Right into the amp for me as well. I have a Foxrox TZF Flanger in the loop of my Roadking that I use for a grand total of one song...everything else is straight into the amp.
bubs_42 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I went Guitar-Amp for many years. Then I started buying pedals a couple of months ago and ended up with a full pedal board. I stated in another thread that my amp was missing a little tone. I pulled the pedal board out of my chain the amp sounds awsome. I'll be purging pedals soon I think.Well, it would depend on how you rigged your setup. Definitely a slight tone "loss" but. I'm definitely getting that Visual Sound volume pedal to run as a buffer up front. They seem to make pretty darn good buffering circuitries... Buffering Circuitries? Hows that work?

Hows that work?Oh, Visual Sound has their own designed and built buffers in their pedals. If you run plenty of patch cables and/or cables between the guitar and amp, your tone would change. Obviously there are good buffers and bad ones. Boss pedals I've found have a decent one, but still robs tone IME. Them Visual Sound ones seem to buffer the signal a lot better than those Boss ones. Essentially, this is a buffer vs. true bypass argument...
bubs_42 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I believe that all my pedals are True bypass. The OD boss pedals have been modified by Keeley. I;n going to start by upgrading all my patch cables and only useing what pedals I need.

Pricey, but they are good, better than some of the more common boutique cables. Obviously there are even better ones, but then comes the diminishing returns from owning them...
Matt Mattson Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I do that - when I'm using the MicroCube. - The MicroCube rules.I thought pedals are for bicycles.
BillW Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I have a wah pedal that's it.(to be fair though - the truth is after that the preamp signal goes through a midi rack fx unit)
cmatthes Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I think it would depend on the amp, but I'm typically a minimalist pedalwise.I pretty much always plug into a TU-2 (gotta be in tune, right?), but rarely use much else. For Guitar, I'll add the Janglebox for really nice clean tones and maybe a volume/wah, and use either a compressor/limiter and (or) Bass Driver for Bass.I have some cool pedals, but unless I have the need to use a delay (either a DD-3 or a Carbon Copy), I don't touch them too much.
silentman Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I plug straight into my Axe-Fx these days. All my other amps are gone and I don't miss em a bit.
blackfbiv Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 My bass has gone straight into the amp, but the Mutron and bass wah have been plugged in for fun every now and then. The guitar goes straight into the amp. BUT-- the stompboxes have been piling up and one day they will go on a pedal board. Right now the object is to get a good sound out of an amp. What about the banjo?
