backinit Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 A local guy has this for sale. Any idea what they are going for?
carfish7 Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Without sounding like a smartass, I'd say "tree-fiddy"Seriously.Z
serial Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 That's an August '78. If it's the set neck model with dots, between $500-750 if all original. People have started to pick up on these like the old Hamers a few years bacjk, especially with the economy where it's been. Nice guitars in my experience. If you see one for $350, buy two!!
lhrocker Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Around $450 to $550. The body and neck are both bound. I love the older Artist models, but they can be a tad neck heavy.

Yeah, what he said mostly, but doing a completed auction search (for things that actually sold) I find $450-$550 to be the going. There was a red one that went for a bit more, and a black one that was super clean that got a bit higher, but nothing over $600 recently.I guess smart-ass was in play, and I'm out of touch with the vintage Ibanez market.Zedited to say ihrocker beat me to it.
backinit Posted August 2, 2009 Author Posted August 2, 2009 Thanks for the replies..Yes, all of them!

This guitar appears to be an AR-50.1981 catalog pageIn addition, here's a cool link for some old Ibanez catalogsIbanez Catalogs
carfish7 Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 It's a 1980 model. The Ibanez serial scheme is a tad confusing.BTW, I used to own the version of this with the locking trem (AR305 mebbe???) and it had a great neck, awesome pickups (w/taps!) and it weighed a metric ton.VERY well crafted instruments. That one would look super cool with a blue sparkle Stike-job!Z
Steve Haynie Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I had a black Artist without binding back in high school and got nostalgic for another a while back. They bring in the $600+ range on eBay for less than mint examples. Condition is everything, of course.
serial Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Yep-August 80- I was looking at it on my iPhone. The letter represents month, the next two digits are year. 80.
backinit Posted August 3, 2009 Author Posted August 3, 2009 Thanks for the link JD!I remember looking at that '78 catalogue...in '78.
JustKid Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Still have one of those Steve Miller one's. Beautiful masterpiece,but... the body is so heavy, imho it's ridiculous. To play sitting on the chair - it just brings you to the ground. to play standing up - you will develop Scoliosis in a couple of months...But the sound is the best...Definitely is worth to have one in your collection.
jerseydrew Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Thanks for the link JD! I remember looking at that '78 catalogue...in '78. You're welcome I had that very same '78 catalog too!

I believe Chris Poland plays/played one of these in Ohm; the first album at least. -Austin

They made one called the SBG1300T with a locking trem that was a killer axe built to a super high standard, had amazing stock pickups (with taps!), and usually weighed several metric tons. Z
