BTMN Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Well I didn't come to Minneapolis to buy a Hamer or ANY Guitar for that matter. Got a '92 Archtop Sunburst in kind of a Root Beer 'burst. It's got some player wear and the store put an Allparts Switchcraft jack in it for me to close the deal cause the old one wouldn't hold the cord in. It has had a Roland synth pickup on it too and SADLY the former holes were wood puttied without any other kind of work to make it pretty. Name stenciled on the case says Chucky so I guess that is this one's name. Came with Truss rod wrench, key, and lil plastic Hamer baggie in the case too. It has some pick wear on the neck pickup ring and some aroune the neck/body area there too. Few lil niucks to the finish on the neck and around the edges but suprisingly no belt buckle rash to speak of. Photos after I'm home in Florida. Not bad for $650 they wanted $700. BTW, I have named my home "Gene's Home For Wayward Hamers"

hamertek98 Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Congrats Gene!!! I'm sure it'll have a nice place in your stable!
pesocaster Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 I'm not a real big fan of sunburst finishes... but that one is a killer .... just right in all the best ways... Nice score!
billhart22 Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Damn, you are a great photogragher! Beautiful guitar!
Cheap Chick Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 When you say Chucky - all I can think of is this: And even with those holes, that guitar is much prettier than that! Pretty funny name though! I love your collection Gene, you have so many guitars with true personality!
BTMN Posted August 9, 2005 Author Posted August 9, 2005 Looks like the memberpages are still down. Also a couple posts lost from this thread. Thanks for getting the board back up Ted. Missed ya at BruceM's party.
BTMN Posted August 9, 2005 Author Posted August 9, 2005 Readded post Meltdown...... This guitar is FREAKIN' excellant, scars and all! Chucky is a buzzsaw with the Brian May Vox. Once again a blind squirrel has found a nut. I feel like I really lived a Ted Nugent existance this weekend. I didn't even know it was Hamer hunting season in Minnesota. Friday I wasn't in town 75 minutes and this guitar was in my hands. I then met a friend I've known since 1976 and a major early influence and guitar teacher. We went wandering through a few other shops in St. Paul and out in the 'burbs. We hit Willie's in St. Paul first. They had a '96 Trans Green Daytona with a Rosewood board and case $599 IIRC. Couple others but I forget what exactly though. Went to American Guitar Boutique after Willie's. No Hamers but some Jay Trussart metal guitars. Didn't play one but they looked cool. My friend, Mark tried several lil combos. Fuchs modded Mesa 1x12, Dr.Z combo, and a couple other brands. Nice stuff in there. We went to Solidbody Guitar following that. Home to the infamous Eric Clapton '58 Gibber Explorer featured in their Vintage Guitar ad. Not in store due to "insurance reasons". Guy told me he had turned down 400K.....Guess it should have been 401K huh? They had an amp line in there called Cornford. Tons of VERY nice Gibber Specials, LPs. and a brand with interchangeable neck inserts. Neat stuff but I cant tell ya the nuts and bolts of the Cornford or the other necks for the guitar. I have forgotten the guitar brand name. The bodies are also ergonomically carved. They had a Korina Explorer example but it was out of my semi bottom feeder wallet especially with Chucky dancing in my head by then. I can tell you Mark put the Cornford combo through it's paces for me and I can see why he wants one. Go to Solidbody's web site for more info. I will post the link later. After our browsing adventures we met up with another friend, Eric from way back also and proceded on to the St. Paul Ribfest for some "deadstuff on the grill" as Ted called it while he was searing our eardrums. Wait I'm so excited I'm getting ahead of myself. As we walked into a view of the stage, from the stage, came a voice introducing April Wine. They played a cool set of old songs bring back some great conversation with my friends about things we did when those songs were big. After they were done playing I even got a chance to talk to Brian Greenway and I got to hear him tell a 14 year old guitar player to practice and stick with it, he had just lit a fire in the boy with his playing. Guess what? The kid spots my Green Hamer Fan Club shirt and says, "Hamers are COOL!" This old man was proud. His dad gave me the ole thumbs up. Life IS GOOD! Like I said Ted was fun to watch. My favorite line was "I just flew in from L.A. this morning and it feels good to be back in America." That guy gets better with age. Yeah, they are the same old songs mostly with a couple of his newest tunes thrown in, but it's the delivery as a 3 piece. Mick Brown sober is dangerous! Barry Sparks is a great utility Bass player. He and Mick having toured together in Dokken not long ago between them had cohesion and tightness. What a great night! But wait, NOW the fun begins. Saturday we hit a fine mexican place for 10:30 Ranchos Heuvos(eggs) While at breakfast, after having debated since the moment I woke up about getting Chucky, I told eric "alright I'm flipping this penny and Heads I get him and...." Flip one Heads, two tails, 3 and 4 roll off the table, five is tails. We eat, get in the car of course we go to the music store. Dont you know an addict when ya read one. The guy was suprised I had shown up even though I told him I wouldn't be back till Saturday. I think I said this once or twice, Life IS GOOD!!!
