Bennyboy-UK Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Hi, I might suggest putting a Seymour Duncan parallel axis distortion model into the bridge humbucker position of your Cali - it has a massive output - somewhere above 21ohms (kohms?)DC resistance as an indicator if I remember correctly. However, this pickup does seem to lose treble definition based only on the manufacturars info - mine is in a maple bodied Cali, so it probably tames some of the toppiness of the construction. It might not be a good complement to a mahogany bodied guitar, so perhaps a standard Seymour Duncan parallel axis trembucker would work. I have one in my mahogany bodied Cali standard and it's a good combination.Hope that helps!Ben.
murkat Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 the early made vintage JB's are way more better than what is offered today. you are trying to compare and apple to and orange, or trying to yeild the same taste. Both are fruit, but diff taste. Same as your two guitars, both guitars, but diff woods, parts, etc. Being said, yes you can get close to the Kramer tone, but still be a lil diff. BUT THAT WOULD BE A GOOD THING measure the DC rz of the KRAMER pups, that would give you a quick base line of Hotness that you prefer, to you liking. then you can hunt for a similar output pup that would complimate the CALI. There is alot of pickup manufactors out there now, worlds your oyster.
zenmindbeginner Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 how far between string & pickups make a good sound for my guitar? The lower the better. High pickups can pull the strings slightly out of tune and you will lose a SHITLOAD of tone for just a little more gain. Use a transparent booster pedal, if you find that a lower pickup height does not drive the front end of your amp as well and you'd like a little more juice.I went through all of my guitars and lowered the pickups as low as I could without sacrificing too much gain and presence. It makes shredding more difficult when the pickups are lower but you get increased note articulation and a much more sweet tone as a result.
paults Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 If you want your Cali to sound more like a mahogany guitar, the Dimarzio Breed is a good choice.
