Looking for one of the old ones. Anybody have one???

Hmm, I guess I'm not really using mine. It's not in great shape, the cloth has come off of the leather backing in places. I'm told anyone with a sewing machine could fix it. If you're interested I can take some pics this weekend.

Prepare to fork over a lot of $$ for one. Even in crappy shape, I haven't seen one sell for less than $75.00 in years. One sold a year or so ago on eBay for $180!

I've got 5 or 6 leftover from 25 years ago or so...

I don't think I'm going to be selling any of them anytime soon though, unfortunately. They are great straps - I think that would have been a big seller if Hamer had ever decided to re-issue THOSE!

All you need is a Perri's checkerboard strap and a silver "Hamer guitars U.S.A." decal that can be transferred to the leather and you're done. The decal won't be easy to get (I've had little to no success with a Canadian company on my Hamer Special headstock decal) but is not impossible. you can probably get a set of 8 or more decals for around $35, but you'll have to call around. Many American companies will give you shit about a corporate logo, but the foreign printers don't seem to care. You could always experiment with inkjet DIY decals on some scrap leather.

The Silver Foil logos on the old Bobby Lee Hamer straps were hot-stamped, and are actually very durable over time. Only one of mine is showing much wear, and it's still all there - just checked and with some mild flaking. Not sure that a waterside decal or even a dry transfer would hold up very well, especially on leather/pleather.

I guess I'm either just spoiled or used to the Hamer straps, but there is NO checkerboard strap out there that looks "right" to me (close to the originals and has the right length, etc.). Levy's made straps almost 10 years ago that used the right material, and I bought a few from BCR and a few more from a local dealer who was blowing them out.

Probably not a big deal, but with those straps, like Turdus, I'm all about "The Look"!!

The Perri's aren't close enough IMHO. The older Levy's straps were pretty close and like many I bought several. The newer Levi's are similar to the Perri's.

The Bobby Lee straps were great and the Hamer ones, well, I don't think I have any of the original ones. I wish Hamer or someone would bring these back.
