stobro Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 ebay mystery Hamer?Anyone here know the background of this curiosity?-Brandon
kizanski Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I don't know what the story is with it, but I may have to make it mine.
hardheartedbill Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I bet it has a skinny neck, but it is badass
HamStd Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 The guitar is from a run of 9 guitars made special for Bill Kaman to his specs and to be given as presents to his friends. The have flamed koa tops, wilkinson bridges and duncan antiquity pickups. They also have a special number script written on the back of the headstock in addition to the regular stamped serial number. They actually have medium/ big necks and very big tone to them. The duncans work well to mellow out the koa top. Great guitar!!!! Peter.
DaveH Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 The guitar is from a run of 9 guitars made special for Bill Kaman to his specs and to be given as presents to his friends. Wow, wish I was a friend of Bill Kaman! Beautiful guitar.
bbobb24 Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 That is beautiful!! Could anyone lend me $1500?
edgar_allan_poe Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 You are all wrong...it is not a Hamer. It is a HAMMER. LOL!!
hikarateboy Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 That is a fantastic looking guitar. I think I prefer koa to flame maple. This is a bit off topic but ever since that ad in the 80's with some one from the rod stewart band I have wanted an aria les paul like the one shown in the auction pictures with this guitar. I dont usually go for copy type guitars but I just liked the way these looked. Anyone have any experience with these. I know Neal Schon played them a bit too.
edgar_allan_poe Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I dont usually go for copy type guitars ... Then what the hell are you doing playing Hamers? LOL!!!!
HamStd Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Just a note to those that have written me, my guitar is not the one that is on ebay right now and I am not the seller on that ebay auction. As a sidenote Ted, the necks on the Arias that I have played were very skinny. The tops are very nice and the workmanship is actually not that bad. I believe that have actually re-issued the guitar in Japan with the arched flame top on it and the blended neck joint heel on them.Don't know if you caught in that Journey "Faithfully" video, Neal and Jonathan Cane were playing little 3/4 sized Aria Les Pauls. I just saw the one that Jonathan Cane used in a shop over here for sale. Peter.

I am actually a skinny to medium neck fan so that wouldnt bother me and I really like the look of the heel on those.re: faithfully, I do remember that vividly but I also think that Schon plays a full sized in one of the videos besides the 3/4 in back of the bus. I dont even want to ask how much they wanted for that 3/4 sized but actually I would like to know.Poe: you totally got me HA!
Guest galejt Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 That "Aria" looks an awful lot like a Yamaha Weddington Custom. http://www.johnbmorris.com/weddington.htm
mrhappy Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Ted...the Rod Stewart guy was probably Danny Johnston(sp)? He played some great stuff with Derringer for a couple of albums. 50's LP Special/Marshall...great tone! Later he cashed in and scored that cushy gig with Rod.Galejt... that Yamaha looks pretty cool too! Not familiar with it... what's the story?

They show up on Fleabay from time to time. They run from $600 to $800. There is a plain model in trans red or white that usually goes for around $400. I have a soft spot in my pants for the trans red. Don't own one, never held one.
Guest galejt Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 What serendipity! There's a Weddington in black on Fleabay for, wait for it, ready, $350! http://cgi.ebay.com/YAMAHA-WEDDINGTON-CLAS...1QQcmdZViewItem
