If you were a buddy I'd interrogate you and ride you so hard on professing this because I would struggle to understand how anyone could with a straight face say they enjoy and actively listen to Winger and find real depth and personal meaning/connection in the work. I would be merciless but it would come from a place of love.

Wow, did this guitar get put in to that other thread? if so I missed it. I need to go back again to that thread... This is a good enough reason for me!

I'll admit i'm a bit conflicted by Winger.

The opening riff to 17 is a killer, and though the two handed solo stuff is a little ... eh... over the top, it's still musically a great song.

But...

I just can't get past the lyrics. When the song came out, i wanted to like it, i really did. But the whole "17 is old enough" was, and still is, a bit on the creepy side for me.

But you are taking the song literally, as an expression of intent or action that you must adopt by listening to and/or liking the song.

Put in those terms, Metallica is downright terrifying.

So why can we just pass off Metallica lyrics as just words, or catharsis, or fantasy, or theater...but take Winger literally?

One thing I will say: Winger could never have inspired anything like Beatallica. So that gives the edge to Metallica in my book.

I think that was my point -- I might just be a member of the choir. It was either post the guitar or pictures of me with my shirt off.... but Winger's made enough of you guys hot n' bothered already so I opted for the guitar.
