Feynman Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 While I was aimlessly debating which of the new low-power amps to buy, this one popped up on my local Craigslist. Pretty much mint condition at a great price, and what turns out to be a nice little mate for the ole' Tonelab. Plus, it fits right in my little guitar nook. So far it's only been at micro-volumes so I can't comment on the tone too much, but the family will be out of town soon and I'll get a better tone report under volume. For now, the reverb sounds nice and it has a very full and pretty clean sound. Switching between the 6v6 and EL84s doesn't seem to be a very noticeable tone difference - I assume that will stand out more when I can move the volume knob past 0.0001. Pics ... isn't it cute?
tomteriffic Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Wonderful amps. Non master volume, pretty simple circuit, adds up to sweet, dynamic tone.
velorush Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Sweet! From all I've read that is supposed to be the big brother of my Subway Blues. What does it weigh? Dibs when you get tired of it?
Feynman Posted May 1, 2010 Author Posted May 1, 2010 What does it weigh? I don't have any friends here to help me get it to a scale, so I'll estimate it roughly at 6,500 pounds. You have dibs!
brion Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I had a BA for a couple of years. I think I paid about 5 bills for the 1x12 combo. I actually sold a Black Cat Cub 15R and a Heritage Victory Combo because the Blue Angel sounded so nice. Some people complain that there is quite a bit of white noise on that amp and there is especially at higher volume settings, but a couple of tube swaps can really bring that down. There was a long post on TGP about it years ago, do a search if your interested maybe it's still out there.Cool Amp.

Good score I have the exact same amp...and absolutely love it. Best reverb of any Mesa that I've heard. They do need to get cranked a little to really come alive and that's when you'll notice the difference between the power tube settings. brion's right - they can be fussy about preamp tubes.
