More about the BBE Sonic Maximizer...

Where would the BBE Sonic Maximizer go in the signal path? I do understand it slightly delays the lows, so the highs hit your speakers first so you get a tighter, better-defined sound. But... is there anything else? What kind of effect it is, after all? An overdrive? A booster? A special kind of EQ?

Always at the end of the chain, whether using it for guitar or general audio.

Of course, if it sounds good, use it where it works.

Opinion vary, blah blah blah... :D

Yeah, it's a proprietary sort of thing. It's job is partly to do what multi-band compression would do on a mix bus, but not quite... It also can beef up the low and high and it claims to "phase align" frequencies.

What it does for that, basically, is slightly delay the bass frequencies. This provides a perceived separation like the seating in an orchestra, where the bass and tympani are back in the back and the violins and high woodwinds are up front.

The low and high beefing is a trick. A touch of scoop to the EQ with a bit of compression on the lows to make things seem more sparkly. But the time-alignment does add something EQ can't. At least to a PA.

Personally, I don't like them on guitar. But, different folks make their tone different ways.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

You're best bet is to find one and try it. They're cheap used, and you can flip it if it's not your thing. I like them for some stuff, and hate 'em for others.

This. I had one, hated it, sold it, and then a friend "surprised" me with a new one. It's like Christine.

I had to sell them for 15 years or so.

I tried all the versions that came in in that time.

Just don't like 'em.

The BWAHAHA....was for you, Jim. Funny shit there. :D

The 'try one' was for Zorrow. They really are a love/hate kinda thing, and without plugging one into something and having at it, he won't know.

Cool guys, I will, I will... :-) The idea actually is getting a better sound from our PA. I'll give you news.

Much more likely to be a practical use than on your guitar chain.

And it is almost certainly the last thing before the amplifier in this use.
