Moose Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 OK, three items for sale. These are bargains to be had, all, as they aren't flashy but are great players. First up, C12L Chap style 12ver with bartolini pickups and bartolini active/passive electronics. SN 050351. The bartolinis sound far better to my ear than stock EMGs and have the benefit of passive mode. It's wired with a 2 band eq in active mode and a tone control in passive, so it is super versatile whichever way you like to play. 90% of the time I like the tone through a bass amp in passive mode, but the active is really useful if you have to go straight in. This also has a Tone to the Bone logo control plate as a mojo item. More pics to follow: Next up is a 1993 P90 special in tobacco burst (2-color burst according to the brochure). This one's a player and has a couple of flaws. There are three small filled holes on the front where I'm guessing someone tried to mount an LP style pickguard. There's some worming and buckle rash on the back. And there's a small ding on the headstock. And it's kind of a fugly color, actually. The photos seem to show more red than exists -- the burst goes from vintage yellow to dark brown with no red band at all. My camera lies. Neck pickup is stock. The bridge pickup has been changed to a different Duncan, and as a special mojo item the tone cap is a real mustard cap. The control cover is also engraved with the Tone to the Bone logo. Here's the closeup of the plugged holes. And last up is the 95 eclipse. Fantastic player, and a really lovely single piece mahogany body. In excellent condition, but this is a player. There are swirl marks and light scratching from picks on the front, and from wearing it on the back. No worming from buttons or belt buckle rash, though! Frets are excellent, and there are no edge dings or road rash, save the flaws listed below. This one has two surface flaws, each about 2mm x 3mm. One ding on the front, and a dent on the back. It's hard to get them on camera, but I will add a couple of photos of them in the next post. There is hameritis along the neck -- pics will be added of that in the next post, as well. All three come with OHSC in good condition. Prices: 12ver - $825 shipped P90 Special - $450 shipped Eclipse - $625 shipped All prices are shipped to the lower 48. I'll ship to Canada or overseas for the difference in shipping costs, so drop me a PM with more info. More pics of all axes to follow. More pics of the eclipse More pics of the eclipse: Here's the dent on the back: And here's the mark on the front -- straight up from the knob: And the hameritis: More pics of the 12ver: There's an odd patch of hameritis on the neck: The 2band EQ is on concentric knobs so the original control layout didn't need to be disturbed More pics of the P90 Special Tone to the Bone logo -- there's some mojo for you! That plate alone will make it sustain for days and all the other platitudes you need in a guitar sale! Here's the ding on the headstock: Here's the bucklerash/worming. It's easier to see in person, but that's the stuff on the right of this pic. Frets are in excellent condition -- no visible wear at all. Again, this is a real player. And damned cheap because it doesn't have a fancy maple top.
specialk Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Great stuff for sale, Moose! With all that mojo workin', ya need a pat or two of buttah, What's the neck like on the Special? Thin?
Moose Posted May 20, 2010 Author Posted May 20, 2010 What's the neck like on the Special? Thin?Typical early 90s. Wide at the nut as modern hamer profile, but thinner front to back.
polara Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 I KNOW I once owned that Special, and THINK that may be the B12L that passed through my hands a few years back (it it also was Cajunboy's). No issues or worries with that Special... nice price too!Diaperburst rocks, if you're man enough to play it!
BlueRedWhite Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 i own one Special P-90 exactly like that one...awesome player!!!!
tomteriffic Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 The filled screw holes tell me that it's my old Diaperburst. Great player! If it had had the Grim Reaper plate on it when I had it, I might have never sold it! Most Esteemed Redhead and I were taking about that guitar just last night. somebody grab it.P.S. If memory serves, one of the pickups on that Special is wound RWRP. Mike Lee did the work.
Scottcrud Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Man I want that p-90 Special... Buying a house right now..., CANNOT spend money right now...

If memory serves, one of the pickups on that Special is wound RWRP. Mike Lee did the work.I don't know -- I think the bridge pup is a normal duncan. The neck may be different -- I didn't pull it and look. And it certainly is your old diaperburst. Really good guitar, but I need cash more than guitars and I have a LOT of axes, including a Junior that gets 99% of my P90 duties anymore.I KNOW I once owned that Special, and THINK that may be the B12L that passed through my hands a few years back (it it also was Cajunboy's). I'm also pretty sure the Bass was Cajunboy's at some point. I got something from hum at one point, but it's been a long time. But I threw $350 worth of pickups and preamps into the thing, so it is significantly improved to my ear. Never could get used to EMGs in any bass, but the Bartolini pickups sound truly classic to me. I almost wish I had a regular 4 string with them, as well.
tomteriffic Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 P.S. If memory serves, one of the pickups on that Special is wound RWRP. Mike Lee did the work.I don't know -- I think the bridge pup is a normal duncan. The neck may be different -- I didn't pull it and look. You might not be able to tell. It was a stock Duncan and Mike just took it apart, swapped the leads, flipped the magnet and sent it back. No special markings or anything.
Moose Posted May 21, 2010 Author Posted May 21, 2010 OK, I was wrong. The bass plate isn't interchangable with the guitar plates.I'm going to put the blank plate on the Special and keep the phantom plate for myself. I'm really sorry about being misleading here. However, at slightly over $400, you're getting a vintage USA made hamer at korean import prices, so I'm only a little bit sorry. This is as close to the mythical $350 bargain as you'll ever get! NEW INCENTIVEI found an extra blank backplate and I really don't want to part with my phantom plates if I don't have to. They have sentimental value. So, the first person who buys one of these axes gets a Phantom plate if he wants it. Whichever one that may be -- 12ver, DB Special, or Eclipse. Any further sales come with a stock, blank, backplate. This is kind of a jerky thing to do, to dangle Mojo like that and then make this silly rule (I mean, you can't have Tone to the Bone without a phantom on your control plate, right?), but I do want to keep a phantom plate for the next axe I acquire. And, at these prices, ESPECIALLY with upgrades like $350 worth of Bartolini electronics in the 12ver...You might not be able to tell. It was a stock Duncan and Mike just took it apart, swapped the leads, flipped the magnet and sent it back. No special markings or anything. That would explain it, then! They look like perfectly normal SD vintage P90s. Leads are long, though, which is why I knew for sure one had been changed. On the plus side, if someone wants to do pickup swapping, there's a buttload of extra lead length to play with!
cmatthes Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I think that the backplate for the B-12 is different than the backplate for the Special. The B-12 has a lower rounded corner and the Special is more triangular. At least that's the way it is on my stuff - the bass plates aren't the standard plate shape.Which spare plate do you have?

At least that's the way it is on my stuff - the bass plates aren't the standard plate shape.Which spare plate do you have?Yup -- I just went and looked and it sure is! I've had this bass a good many years and didn't realize I'd swapped it out when the original plates were done.So someone better buy the bass first or I'm screwed!Seriously, I've got a spare guitar plate, so the special's the one that's losing it's mojo. Really sorry for the misleading ad, guys.
Moose Posted May 22, 2010 Author Posted May 22, 2010 Special is SOLD to a good home. Some tire kicking on the others, but nothing yet. Give the 12ver some love! I might even be able to dig up the original EMGs if someone wants to offer me a few dollars less, though it'd be a crime to pass on those bartolinis at this price.
Moose Posted May 24, 2010 Author Posted May 24, 2010 Bump -- still nothing but tire kickers so maybe a small incentive.Someone want to deal on the eclipse? Maybe $25 off? $800 for the bass?

Moose Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 Mick decided against the purchase so we're back on the market.
