'97 Gibson "The Paul II"

Picked up one of these short-lived thinlbody instruments over the weekend at a pawn shop. Was pleased with the light weight + the balance. I'd tried Les Paul Lites back in the early '90s but they were too neck-heavy; this thin-bodied item feels just right (for me). Wish it had neck binding and/or large fret markers but I can always put stickers wherever for visual reference, and can always recycle pickups if needed.

This kinda reminds me of the old Melody Makers (but this one has a belly cut).

May have just acquired a new frontline utility instrument.

Pics? Are these like "The Paul's" from the late 70's/early 80's?

Always dug those. Never played a bad one.

I had a black one of those. I remember posting about it in the first Hamer board. :)

The truth is, for some $550 new, that was one totally kick @ss guitar.

I think BCR Greg had a bright red one in the shop on Saturday-looked cool!

I think 'The Paul' from the late '70's/early '80's were usually made of walnut and were usually finished natural. I'm curious about what a II model looks like also, and what it's made of.

I remember "The Paul", but not "The Paul II".The sound like versions of Les Paul Specials with slight differences.

There's a couple up on eBay. The original style had a plain headstock, and later the Les Paul script was added and it was called The Paul SL.

My first guitar was a used 59 Les Paul Junior that was beat, got it because Johnny Thunders played one, I got in 72 or 73 played that until I got a Traynor YBA Bassmaster, Fuzz and a 4/12 in 76-77 and it squealed like a pig so I I picked up a 78 "the paul" and used them both till 85-86 and sold them both in a divorce sale. I remember the T-top pickups were especially good.
