Hey guys, I am new here and just picked up a Hamer Vector. I haven't had a chance to clean it up yet, but wanted to get some advice, suggestions and opinions about it.

It's a 1984 Vector 1 hum/1 volume in sunburst. It has been refinished and during the refin some sanding rounded the fretboard. I can also see where the pickguard used to be (filled screw holes)

I am going to unstring it and clean it up/oil the fretboard to see if it looks any better. The serial # on it is 410195 and it is painted on the 'non gibson' headstock.

Any suggestions on finding out if it was always sunburst and what type of pickguard would have been on it if any?

It looks like a KK V without the KK V headstock (V shaped). I would think because of the single pickup config. that it had a KK V pickguard. Maybe it was once a KK V? :) KK V's also had Kahler's. Any bridge mods to your guitar?

That looks like a custom-ordered '84 Vector. It isn't a KK model, but does share the pickup/pickguard setup of that model.

Shame that it was refinned, but those are cool guitars!

Looks like a nice refin job. What did the guitar set you back? What kind of pickup? I have pics of my KK V but I don't know how to attach them here. Duh!

I haven't taken the pickup out yet, but I will probably this weekend if I have the time.

I didn't know what to give because it wasn't a collector guitar with the refin, I probably paid too much. Let's just say under $500 :)

Where's a good place to find a KK guard (if you guys think there should be one on it)

I thought customs would have a shorter serial #, so it would have to have a guard in 1984 if it wasn't a custom, right?

They stopped the 4-digit serial number scheme in 1984, and Vectors were regular production models at that time, so the serial # is likely correct. It may or may not have had a guard from the factory - tough to tell.

If it was a KK Vector, it would have had the '67 Vee style headstock (thinner "arrowhead"), would have come stock with a Kahler (looks like a stock Sustainblock setup here) and would have had the shortened KK Model pickguard.

It looks like a custom-ordered Vector, which although a custom order, would have still had a standard production serial. On that note, maybe Serial Steve here could pull something up on it for ya...

cool, so I just email the address under 'serial #s' up top and steve may be able to find something?

I thought about adding it to the database, but I didn't want to put the info on the new finish, does he have access to hamer build records?

Thanks!

Thank you Guitar George! I'll give it a shot. The only thing I ever do on a computer is take care of my GAS problem! You would think I'd learn by now! :)

BroChris is right. Sustain block single pickup Vector. I'll check my records and get you some info if I have anything on that one.

Thanks guys!

Serial, I appreciate it! Let me know if you can find any info.

BCR, I'll keep you in mind, but I think the only thing that could replace this one is a beater KK or Phantom GT.

This one works for me because I don't really care for mint guitars - mojo, price, and the fact I don't want to be the one that screw up a mint one :)

Understood.

My main guitars get beat up FAST, but they get there happily!

Welcome! Nice Vector. I cant see the lines for the tenon of the neck at all.

SUSTAIN BLOCKS Rule!!! :)

HaHa,

I just tried to string it up and put a strap on it and there is no front strap button on the back!

Worse yet, I can't see where the hole was plugged and painted over to put it back on!

Any eagle eyes out there can tell me where exactly to locate it or if it could have come from the factory located somewhere else than centered right below the neck joint? (how far down from the joint? I guess I need to drill and place a button there?

Thanks!

Hey David, that's amazing. Why would anyone want to play a V sitting down? You wanna sit down? Play the piano! I'm sure that guitar is in the right hands now!
