DavidE Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Anybody notice any huge difference between the 1 and 2 piece bodies? I worked out a trade deal on one with some nicely flamed Korina, but it looks like it has a 2 piece body (though the owner says it's one piece and just the way the light hits in the photo) and I'm wondering if there's any downside to that. The flame does go across what looks like the seam, so it may very well be one piece.
cmatthes Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 David E:Most of the ones I've seen have been one-piecers, but I don't think it would make any appreciable difference if you did find one with a 2-pc. body. Korina can have some pretty odd grain peculiarities - I looked at a Standard for a friend a while ago and SWORE it was a 2-piece body...until I got to look at the end grain up close. It was definitely a single piece, but the grain took off in a slightly different direction almost exactly down the center. Looking under the pickups and the guard also proved it was a single piece, but it sure had me fooled. What did you trade for it?
Moose Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 First -- that's one piece. I'm 99 and 44/100ths percent sure of it.Second, it won't matter one bit to tone. We all know two gutars made of -- for example -- honduras mahogany, can weigh from 8lbs to 11lbs, have different tone, different feel, different balance, etc. It's the nature of wood and a great luthier will pick and choose wood that will best fit what tone they want. So, two piece, three piece, or one piece will pretty much make less difference than other factors, like the choice of one piece of wood or another. Hamer chooses excellent, light, resonant, korina for juniors. In other words, don't worry about it. Damned beautiful guitar and, as I was reminded last night, I always find mine to be one of the most enjoyable guitars to play in my arsenal.
hamertek98 Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Korina is COOL! Does anyone know how it translates to a bass guitar? I hope in one year I can do a custom. Marcnorth has some great guits I've GOT to try.
DavidE Posted September 6, 2005 Author Posted September 6, 2005 More photos. Some really look like a 2 piece, but I'll see for my self soon.
BCR Greg Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Two piece.Show the endgrain down at the bottom strap button.
DavidE Posted September 6, 2005 Author Posted September 6, 2005 I will once it arrives. The seller has a couple of these and has another of his on Ebay right now.
ArnieZ Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 David, Mine's a 2 piece and it sounds great. FWIW I have a friend with a 1 piece Artist Korina and it sounded no better than my 2 piece Artist Korina. The othe Jr. on ebay appears to be a 3 piece body to me.ArnieZ
Guest teefus2 Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 not sure it matters how many pieces there are. i bought my korina artist hb after trying out 2-3 others. the one i stuck with was the most lively and best sounding of the bunch. after close examination the body turned out to be made of 10 pieces or so. just kidding but it's at least 2 if not 3 anyway.
DavidE Posted September 6, 2005 Author Posted September 6, 2005 That's pretty much what I figured. Maybe the 1 piece bodies have more "mojo" and "vibe."
HamStd Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Maybe the 1 piece bodies have more "mojo" and "vibe." And they play like "buttah".... Nice trade/score Dave!!!!Peter
