Hamer P-90 Special comparison to Gibson Special

no doubt!! i read this long piece from a guy who worked music retail for a long time r/e LP's;

he said the good ones don't ever make it to the sales floor; because LP's are so hit & miss, when a good one comes in to a store, the employees grab it for themselves. i'm not saying all gibsons suck, i'm saying you have to play 9 or 10 to find a keeper (this is not news to most of us here).

i have bought & sold ~20 hamers in the last ~10 years, almost all unseen (well, unplayed) over the internet; not ONE was a dog, all were good to great quality. don't try that w/ most brands.

DavidB and I were discussing this just the other day. I have always liked a good LP tone, but in 25+ years playing, I think I have played maybe 2 that felt and sounded good AND wasn't a dog.

So many of the LPs I have played have zero personality and the build quality is just meh...

I was really surprised at how well the Tally Pro captures the LP vibe. I call it the LP killer. :lol:

I would go with the Special and nothing wrong with the stock p ups and with the right amp I think you can get the Live At Leeds tone with the stock p ups. Got mine a few months back, its a 93. Found it right here. My first Hamer, hopefully not the last. I am very impressed with her, was actually dumbfounded with the level of quality. For the money you can't beat it. Much better than a new Gibby I think. One for sale now in the for sale section here. I'll show her off again.

Have you ever heard the expression "It'll make a turd" to describe a meal that was edible but not much else? That's the LP Tribute in a nutshell.

How lucky I am, I must have bought the only good one. :lol:

Thanks guys, she is a keeper. Looks like it was hardly played. I couldn't imagine drilling any holes in this one and wouldn't want to cover up that cool sunburst. Besides with my super accurate picking abilities, no need anyway. I wish. I'm not much of a thrasher anyway, never did master that Pete Townsend whirly whirl strum. Sorry if we got off topic.
