Hamer Time Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Wilkinsons are better than Gotoh. Not according to Messrs. Tyler, Suhr, Melancon, and Grosh.Really doesn't mean they're better though.
BubbaVO Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Wilkinsons are better than Gotoh. Not according to Messrs. Tyler, Suhr, Melancon, and Grosh.Really doesn't mean they're better though.Nope it doesn't. They could be making a $$ driven decision. Why not call up some of the folks that work on guitars for a living and see what they think?
burningyen Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 They've chosen a part that sells for $90+ over a part that sells for $40. If it's a money-driven decision, it's a decision that they want save themselves the expense of getting guitars returned to them.

Gotoh is a bigger company right, so maybe they got a better deal than other companies. Also Wilkinson might not have the range of bridges they need, so they go with who does.I would have thought out of anybody Hamer fans would know that price does not necessarily dictate quality. Not all Wilkinson bridges are that cheap btw, the one I replaced sell for around $180...http://www.amazon.co...23727701&sr=8-8The only difference is the saddles.
cmatthes Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Also, keep in mind that the stuff you buy from places like StewMac, WD, AllParts, etc., ARE Gotoh bridges. The VSV-G that you buy these days is probably a "Wilkinson by Gotoh".Stamped right on the bridge plate...

zenmindbeginner Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 There is no such thing as a Wilkinson factory that makes Wilkinson parts.Wilknson is a dude named Trevor Wilkninson who licenses his designs out to different manufacturers.Gotoh is the most respectable and highest quality driven manufacturer that has purchased licenses on Wilkinson's designs. If you don't buy a Gotoh Wilkinson, you are most assuredly purchasing a part manufactured to lesser standards.Gotoh (owned by Hosco... sort of the StewMac of Japan) is one of the world's leading hardware manufacturers with a stellar reputationNon Gotoh branded Wilkinson hardware are being outsourced by Price Korea Music Co. LTD and made in who knows where and to standards that nobody knows.Gotoh is not overpriced junk, it's the real deal.
BubbaVO Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Another trem option that Hamer chose on other strat variants (Vintage S & T-62) was the ABM roller-saddle trem.
