Metallic blue-green Eclipse, shown with TonePros bridge and BCR “Gregwind” Gibson mini-humbuckers. Very good to excellent condition with some pick scratches on the front, no nicks, dings or dents and barely perceptible fret wear (no pits or grooves). I have the original Duncan pickups, Wilkinson bridge and original hard shell case. I’ll sell in your choice of configurations:

1. Put back to original stock w/o case: $550

2. With Gregwinds and TonePros, original pickups and bridge inc., w/o case: $700

3. Add OHSC: $50.00 (I’m short one old Hamer case, so I can use this one if you don’t need it.) I will pack the guitar to survive.

prices do not include shipping or PayPal fees (3%)

’80 Sustain Block Special, looks to be all original except for the pickup mounting rings and frets. Condition is very good, with some finish chips on the back and some light scratches on the front. Two features make this one a bit unusual. It was professionally refretted with jumbo wire. The new frets are in mint condition with no wear. It also has a larger neck profile than I’ve seen on Specials from this era. It’s not “fatback” or “59” sized, but it is pretty close to Hamer’s current vintage profile, with a bit more taper from the peghead to the body. With the big neck and big frets, this is one of the best playing Sustain block Specials I’ve come across. $650 with OHSC, $600 w/o case, add shipping and PayPal fees (if using).

Just so everyone knows, the Minis have been disassembled, each coil potted(which is a pain since they are cheap clear plastic), the original magnets removed and 1950's Alnico V magnets installed, then the whole kabosh is replaced in the cover, potted again and the bottom soldered back on. Not easy or fun, but worth the job! Minis are not like regular humbuckers, they must be used with a cover.

Ooh, that Eclipse is tempting. Does that have the belly cut? How much does it weigh? Neck profile? What year?

Would you consider trades? I've got a red transparent Artist Mahogany with Haussel P90s, a 1987 American Standard Tele (Red, rosewood board, 1 owner), a purple sparkle Danelectro 12, a commie red Danelectro Baritone and a Lexicon signature 284 with magic eye and Lexicon 2*10 speaker cabinet as possible trade fodder, all of it in great shape.

Let me know!

Very tempting indeed. I love the look on this one. Thank God I'm broke ;)

I have one with the std SD mini-hums & I'm luvin it. Can't imagine how delicious it would sound with the BCR-HotRodded Gibson mini-hums. It a truly unique guitar in many ways. Whoever gets it is gonna luv it.

Thanks for the interest. I'll do some measuring and weighing tonight and post additional details. I'll also try to get some more photos taken, but it's busy as hell at work right now so it might be the weekend before I'm home during daylight hours.

Sorry, no trades - I'm selling off a few guitars to pay for the Gibson L5-S I just bought. I know, trading off Hamers for a Gibson is heresy, but the L5-S is something I've lusted after for 25 years - and it's exceeded my expectations.

More to come.

On the other hand, Dave.....

I know a certain stock cherry-red Eclipse in real nice shape that you had on a 6 month approval before, as well as a well-loved red 82 Sustain Block Special in inferior shape to yours. The astute observer would note that you could raise some cash and not be out the guitars. ;)

Just fishin', y'know?

That L5-S is certainly a beaut and a worthy object of your desire. Eons ago I saw Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady perform as Hot Tuna and Jorma pulled a well-loved cherry sunburst one of those out for a couple of tunes and just killed me. Enjoy it.

I understand what you're sayin' Tom, but it's time to let a few go. I have a couple of amazing new Hamers and one old Sunburst that isn't going anywhere. I'll get by with those.

Here are the specs I promised earlier:

Special: 8.1 lbs, neck profile: .880" @ the first fret. .930" @ the 12th

Eclipse: 7.4 lbs, neck profile: .860" @ the first fret. .900" @ the 12th

I have one too, and I love it. This particular one, no matter what I start out doing with it, veers me over to big ol' slabs of Southern-fried rock. And I don't mind it a bit.

LOTJ, sorry you can't hang with the neck, that's one rude guitar. I only let it go because I have the black one with a Pigtail wraparound bridge conversion that is even ruder, if that's possible. Guess I'm just not as neck-thickness fussy as some, I've got 'em from '92 Special skinny up to '98 baseball-bat.

Just for fun I pulled out my dial caliper and had a go at a few of my Hamers:

'96 Archtop GT .920" @ 1st, .97" @ 12th

'00 Artist Korina .950" @ 1st, 1.00" @ 12th

'00 Artist Mahogany .930" @ 1st, 1.02" @ 12th

30th Anniversary: .950" @ 1st, .980" @ 12th

and for good measure, a couple of my guitars that I've always considered on the skinny side:

'87 Telecaster: .880" @ 1st, .950" @ 12th

Dean Tonic: .850" @ 1st, .920" @ 12th

So from my informal poll, that puts the Eclipse squarely in the skinny neck camp!

The Eclipse is sold.

Regarding the neck profile measurements, Gibson's "Fat 50's" profile is 0.818" at the 1st fret with a gradual taper to 0.963" at the 12th. Their "slim 60's" profile is virtually identical to the 50's at the first fret, but doesn't get a big as you go up the neck, with 0.880" being a typical 12th fret measurement.

I have several Hamers with the "vintage" profile. Measured with an extremely accurate digital caliper, none of them are thicker than 0.980" at the 12th fret.

The biggest neck profile I have ever found is Warmoth's "fatback". It is absolutely massive, bigger than any Gibson historic neck and bigger than my '59 LP Jr. (which has the typical '59 tree trunk neck). The fatback measures 1.00" at both the 1st and 12th frets.

Someone buy this special and put me out of my misery :)

Really a great price and probably kills with the big frets!

Can't believe it's still here!!!

Bump for the Special (and the Sunburst on eBay). I'd grab it if I could.

The Eclipse came through the door just now and is scaring me half to death, it's sooo cool and cool-sounding, too.

In case you didn't know, BadgerDave has exquisite taste in guitars, is a genuine pleasure to deal with and does a gorilla-proof job of packing.
