Dark Areas in Mahogany?

A seller has two Hamer Sunbursts on eBay right now. One of them is here:

Red Sunburst

The mahogany on the back has some dark areas. I know this has been discussed before, but hopefully someone can refresh us with what causes this and if it is something to be concerned about.

What is with the "but". I think that is a killer looking

Sunburst. And the dark tints just ad to the beauty.

It's a beautiful natural coloration.

Looks like the back and neck have been refinished, so it could be a botched stain job or something.

Notice there is no serial number on the back of the headstock...

I'm reaching back, but believe this is one redone by Ed Roman's shop when it was on the east coast.

Those darker spot are usually the result of the "shop dog" hiking it's leg on it just prior to finishing.....damn dog..... hehe

Refin. Possibly black at one point. That stuff's REAL hard to get out of the pores of the wood.
