Gibson geeks - value of T-top PU

I bought a guitar recently from a pawn shop that had a Robin Rival neck (scalloped) on a home-made body. I opened it up and found the reason that it sounded so decent - it was sporting a T-top pickup in the bridge!

The only issue was that it didn't balance well with the neck pickup and I also want to try out another vintage pickup I have so I am going to set the T-top free.

It has the pat. # sticker, no cover, is in good shape, and works perfectly. They seem to be all over the board on Ebay, so I figured I'd tap the brain trust of the HFC.

Oh, it also has a grey vinyl coating on the leads rather than the braided but appears to be 2-conductor. One of the feet is very slightly rounded as well. Any ideas what I should ask for it?

It is essentially this pickup minus the cover and ring:

Thanks!

Carfish,

You can check the 'completed' auctions for some that actually sold. That should give you a good idea what people are paying. If it sounds great, why sell it?

The only thing I don't like about them is that they are microphonic, so too much gain and mine squeal like crazy. Otherwise, they do sound really good.

Part of the price difference is the year of issue. Linkee to thread

Phillips head screws on baseplate are from first couple of years.

I have one in the bridge of a Heritage; my homage to JPs #1 circa 73.

you can always get them potted ;)

Jay, so t-tops can be potted but not old dimarzios. Got it.

Wait a minute... T-Tops were not potted?

The only pair I ever had were potted (big mess when I pulled the cover off).

So that was not original?

FWIW: these were in a late 60's ES-355 - I don't know that I've ever owned a better sounding guitar. It was magic, and I'm still trying to buy that guitar back after more than 20 years.
