David B Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 I just ordered one of those $499 Gibson Juniors in satin cherry from Musician's Friend. Is there a good way to make it a gloss finish instead of satin?
bubs_42 Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 The ONLY WAY? why yes! send it to me Fixed it!
G Man Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 This will do the job somewhat, and its safe for nitro, http://www.virtuosopolish.com/ Otherwise, McGuires car Scratch X followed by their Crystal Polish will do the job as well, although there has been a question as to whether or not this product contains chemicals which can make later nitro repair jobs troublesome.
FrankieIII Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 The right product combined with a high enough speed buffing wheel is required, but be very careful not to burn through the finish on the edges, etc.
Armitage Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 It's easy to make it shiney, it's hard to make it smooth.
Turdus Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 It's easy to make it shiney, it's hard to make it smooth.Right. I had a highway 1 P bass. Through the miracle of Mcguire's, and a lot of elbow grease, I put a shine on it. But you could still see a fair amount of orange peel in the finish.
GusS Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 gman are you saying those 499 Gibson juniors are nitro?
G Man Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 gman are you saying those 499 Gibson juniors are nitro?I'm not, nor do I claim to know. If they indeed are not, then I would not hesitate for a minute to use the McGuire's method.
BCR Greg Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 The guitar will not go to gloss as it is. They don't fill the pores, so the texture will not go away. Have it professionally shot and you will be happy. Virtuoso only works on a guitar that has been pre filled.Send it to Jay. He has a cool spray booth. I stopped spraying guitars last year, the Pa government is too strict.
