Bridge humbucker for Chap, recommendations please!

Some advice sought here. I pulled out the Slammer humbucker from an '87 Chap standard, meaning to replace it with a Gibson Burstbucker. The experts will already know what follows next: The Gibson pup didn't fit because it's too high for the cavity. The screws with the springs for height adjustment are way too long.

Now since I don't wanna start drilling holes in the guitar, any recommendations for a fitting humbucker? I'm looking for more output than the original Slammer but I don't wanna go as high as an EMG. Something along the lines of a Burstbucker or a Dirty Fingers would be great.

Any help is much appreciated!

Cheers,

Dan

USA Bill Lawrence L-500 :) I put one in my 91 Centaura after trying many Duncans. If you want HOT (as I use for METAL) try a L-500XL (the Dimebag version). I found the BL to be similar to the Slammer but hotter & I installed the XL version. Around $50 is about right if memory serves...

PATB-2 has an ample sufficiency of output for a passive HB.

I quite like it, it hits top and bottom, and passes on mids in a maple guitar... I would venture that in a chap it might be rather nicely balanced... Packs an alleged 21.3k ohms DC resistance...

...and with rectangular pole pieces it sounds more square than round ones, and as there are twice as many pole pieces as a normal pickup it means that it makes you sound like you are playing twice as many notes.

PATB's are pretty good but didn't quite cut it for me in my Cent. Different woods for different goods...

You say, "Something along the lines of a Burstbucker or a Dirty Fingers would be great."

The Murkat Special is what a dirty fingers should have been. And it is F spaced. Double row of screws, just like the DF. Perfect for guitars sporting the floyd rose.

Per Mr. Murkat in this link - http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/53090-wcr-murkat-special-floyd-specific-humbucking-pickup-update/?hl=%2Bmurkat+%2Bspecial

Mags are an option when odering. either A5 or A2. The mags are cut to a specific size.
I am an A2 guy myself, but find the A5 works very well in the protos I have in the guitars I have, tried in.
Very tweekable pickup to taste, per application.

Have fun!

Try a Bill Lawrence L90 a little sweeter than the l500 though I love both. I have a spare 70s first edition l90 that I will put on the lard soon. PM me if interested.

The WCR Murkat Special is a state of the art pickup that has one foot firmly in the future and one in the vintage past.

Jim Wagner is one of the best humbucker winders in the world... there's no doubt about that.

But, if yernot wantin' to spend that much money or really any money at all...

If that's a 10K Slammer, I'll trade you a 16K Slammer for it.

I would email Jim at WCR, he can, will taylor a pup to your needs in anyway.

short legs, long legs, whatever you need.

That'd be sweet but I live in Switzerland... PM me if you want the 10K Slammer.

Thanks for the recommendations. I found a cheap Bill Lawrence pup (30 bucks) that I'll try. If it doesn't do the trick, I'll contact WCR...

Cheers!
