FrankieIII Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 My good friend is a pro airbrush artist and pinstriper, and for a while I've had the idea of painting faux binding onto a guitar body with a factory finish and no binding. He painted the single binding on my blue sparkle Mighty Mite body below in about 30-minutes. It was done completely by hand. He color matched/mixed the paint to perfectly match another older Fender Tele body I have with slightly aged binding. The new single-bound Fender American Deluxe Telecaster below was the inspiration for the single binding, but wanted to ask the HFC if you think I should have the binding added to the back of my body so it's double-bound? Also, my friend is for hire if anyone is interested in having any custom faux painted binding or pinstriping work done. He can custom mix/match any color and duplicate any design supplied or create something completely original and custom. Here are links for examples of his pinstripe work: http://www.truckinweb.com/features/0403tr_1977_chevy_silverado/ http://www.socalcustoms.com/Features/KinetikRelaxedRam/
veatch Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Looks like it came out pretty nice. I would bind the back of a hollow body or possibly a Les Paul, but not a tele style. Looks pretty good as it is.
tbonesullivan Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I generally feel that the less plastic on my guitars, the better. I tend to like the feel of an unbound guitar too. Often the binding adds a sharp angle to the edge of the body, which can be uncomfortable.

Often the binding adds a sharp angle to the edge of the body, which can be uncomfortable. This explains my preference of a Special over a Sunburst. As long as we're talking faux binding, my vote would be for the double bound Tele. I think it adds a lot to the look of the guitar, but I wouldn't want one with actual binding on the front or the back.
LordsoftheJungle Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Double![img=http://www.themusiczoo.com/images/4-24-12/11302_61_Telecaster_Custom_Relic_Black_R64596_1.jpg]Feynman says it best,,,Double bound teles look great to me, I dont know if it's the added symmetry or depth or what, but they always grab my eye.
tbonesullivan Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 for looks, I always think double bound seems better on a guitar body. Not quite sure why. maybe it's more "dressy" or something like that.
Steve Haynie Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 With that blue sparkle a double bound look would make it look more like racing stripes. Go for it.
