JRV Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Hallo I am new in the HFC. I am from Germany. One of my favorite hobbies is collecting fine Guitars. So I am always searching for good an payable guitars on fleemarkets etc. (to buy a expensive one in a big store is easy ... ;-)Last spring my son make me aware of a intresting guitar at the lokal fleemarket. It was a black Hamer Daytona without strings but in a real good condition. I payed 80 Euro (after I haggled (is it the right word?) a little bit).I do not know anything about this one. I think it was made in Korea but I am not sure. Can anybody tell me something about the guitar, when it was made, where it comes from an so on ...THE SERIAL NUMBER IS: 7075548 (it is written with black ink on the back of the Headstock).best wishes from a cold but sunny place at the lake of constance.
Disturber Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 You got some pics?If it says "USA" under the Hamer logo on the head stock it's a US made Daytona. If not, it's probably Korea.
JRV Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 Here is a picture of the headstock theres no USA logo
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Still, you got a good deal on it.Just not as good a deal as if it had been a USA.Haggled is the right word.I'd say that you could get one here in the US for anywhere between 100 Euro (low end, good deal) and 200 Euro, depending on condition, how badly you wanted it, how much the seller liked it, etc.
JRV Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 Thank you all for the answers!I like this guitar. In my opinion t's better than many others "made in Korea", even better than the Korean made Chevy with E-Number. In Germany many people are very enthustiated obout the Chevy guitars witch had to change the name in Chery, Cheri an so on ...I'am the owner of both (Chevy and Hamer/Korea) and can compare them directly (o.k. there are some differents like a one piece maple neck (Chevy) and the rosewood/maple neck by the Daytona). At the end the Daytona is the better guitar, even in playability and in sounding ...
BTMN Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Welcome. If you like that wait until you try a USA Hamer should you find one.
kanegon Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Chevy guitar? Googled it and this popped up:
cmatthes Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 That's a late '80s/early '90s American Showster. ^^The taillight lightsup when you dump the trem.
lincsman Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Welcome to the board, the Daytona is a great guitar congrats
JRV Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 Oh yes my Daytona is a very great guitar - I really like playing it.The "Chevy" is real funny. My one ist only called like the cars - it looks like a strat and the company had to change the name Chevy into Cheri and few times later they quitted making guitars. In germany they are really desired. Because they are relatively cheap (used about 180 up to 250 Euro and as good as much more expensive guitars - but not as good as my HAMER ;-))Now, I will try to get a USA Hamer guitar, too. When I have found one I will post it !!
KH Guitar Freak Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Nice grab. Those Korean Hamers are still great. In fact, they are one of the best Korean guitars IMO ever made. They used to be second class guitars back in those days, but comparing them to guitars of today, IMO can even give some USA/Japan made guitars a run for their money...
