seeker Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Haven't seen one of these in a while. Yes, from personal experience, a Mace is LOUD.http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/msg/4181625002.htmlMD guys, as the CL ad says, buying it for the tubes alone is probably worth it (6 Sylvania 6L6s).
crunchee Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 +1! They're apparently heavy as well as being loud. "Cash and carry"? More like "cash and herniate". An interesting article here, especially if you're into Lynyrd Skynyrd and Neal Schon: http://www.ampgas.com/2010/08/03/remember-the-peavey-mace/ And some individual gear lists, maybe (I don't know how reliable they are): http://www.lynyrdskynyrd.com/board_posts/lynyrd-skynyrd-equipment-listings
JohnnyThunders Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Whoa, blast from the past. I tried one of those at Difores House of music back in the day. Loud, loud and not much gain.
velorush Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Gosh, I just don't remember those - and realize, the rural south back in the late 70's was definitely "Peaveyland." Kind of like Bob's Country Bunker having "both" kinds of music, we had Peavey (guitars) and Peavey (amps). I clearly remember the Deuce and Heritage they cite in the linked article, but I don't think I remember ever seeing a Mace.
tomteriffic Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 The Mace was big amongst pedal-steelers in my neck of the woods because they had a fast attack, clean headroom for miles and could double as a stool, Until they got hot enough to fry your butt off.
Boomerang~Junkie Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I also remember these from my high school days as being unbelievably loud - a buddy had one in his basement. It was, "holy $hit I can't believe that size of an amp is making that much f*cking noise", loud. The neighbors around him were normally pretty cool about our craziness as kids, but HATED it when he heated that thing up to rock. I never had to move one so the weight thing is news to me, but no surprise either.I noticed that there are two different control/plug-in configurations on the old vs. the newer models non-"VT" and "VT" (I think?). Are both models the same internally and with sound, or are the older ones any better than the newer ones or visa-versa, or what? Thanks.
