New Member & Vector Bridge Question

Hi!

My name is Es, I live in Germany and guess I'm working hard on becoming a Hamerholic!

I've "only" got two at the moment, this 1995 Modern Vintage Special that I bought in November last year

and this 2006 Vector Korina that I bought from fellow member ROLI last week - thanks ROLI!

I've always wanted a Korina V, and this is one of the best playing and sounding guitars I've ever owned!

So, now for the question: The bridge on the Vector, which I presume is a Tone Pros because of the two allen screws* that lock it to the posts, is showing quite a lot of play between the bridge casting and the posts. When I loosen the two allen screws, I can move the bridge back and forth by about 1-1.5mm. I'm thinking of either buying a replacement Tone Pros bridge or a Faber Nashville to ABR-1 conversion kit with the INsert posts. I recently fitted the Faber kit to my Gibson Firebird and noticed a massive improvement in sustain, so I'm tempted to do that, but I'd like to hear what experience the members here have.

* one of the screws was missing from the guitar, but I had to buy 50 spares... Should anyone want one (or 2 or 3...), let me know and you can have it for the cost of the postage.

Cheers

welcome to the forum.

Yes, the Faber kit/ conversion has my seal of approval.

The faber will bring a nice classic chime, ring, note definition to the tone print of the limba wood.

Hello and welcome the the Forum. I did a TonePros AVR-1 replacement in my Standard and it has been great. Looks "right", too. The guitar also has Faber locking tailpiec studs. I like these much more than the TonePros version; they are easier to use and couple better to the bolts.

Don't think you can lose with either Faber or TonePros when it comes to locking bridges. I tend to favor the Faber products, but you need to take care when ordering to get the right sizes, etc. Good luck with your project!

Hello Es,

nice Vector you are having there ;)

Good to have you on board. Though I warn you to hide your wallet......

Thanks for all the welcomes - and particularly for Roli for "letting me have" the Vector!

The Vector is definetely one of my best sounding and playing fiddles, only rivalled by my Les Paul Custom! The tone running though my Marshall YJM with the OD set to clean boost and with a touch of reverb or delay is like double cream - yummy :)

As for the bridge, I'll probably order a complete Faber kit in gold, and use the ABR-1 on the Vector and the Tone Lock (or whatever they're called) studs on the Lester. Ill have them substitute the gold tailpiece for a chrome one, and use that on the Special. I've got some spare Tone Lock rings from the kit for my Firebird, so I'll probably turn down the original studs from the Special to crate a cheapskate Tone Lock system. Will take lots of pics of the process...

Cheers
