Willie G. Moseley Posted March 19, 2005 Posted March 19, 2005 An '87 1868 Elite (super-shallow bowl, OP-24 electronics) is the only flat-top acoustic I own, mainly for comfort rather than sound. Not so hot unplugged, but using a Dano chorus and delay, I can get nice gain and projection when I'm singing solo stuff. I prefer the OP-24 onboard system on accounta the later stuff's too complicated.

I wish I still had it.A few months back my daughter had an overnight outting with the church. While they were loading the bus and getting ready to board, a homeless man walks in and asks if the church could spare some money for a meal. They give the guy some cash and off he goes.Later, as they finish loading the bus, they notice the Paster's Yamaha acoustic is gone. It's nowhere to be found. They were all pretty stunned. This is a small town and shit like this doesn't happen here. Seems Mr. Homeless Guy walked off with the Pastor's guitar as his way of thanking them for their generosity.Well, knowing how crushed I'd be if someone stole my guitar, I gave the Pastor my Ovation. I loved that guitar, but...well, I got other guitars. I'll get another sometime....

kurtsstuff Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Ok....so.....I'm in the minority but...I've played countless Ovation Guitars and...They just don't do a thing for me...maybe it's just knowing that I'm playing an instrument that made of the same material that they make helicoptor blades out of??....yep...Kaman makes helicoptors too...!

I still want one.Like all other guitars, Ovations will vary a little in sound with each different guitar. Overall I like the sound of an Ovation when it is played acoustically. Plugged in sounds great, too.
Guest galejt Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Nope. They do nothing for me acoustically and unfortunately that's a big part of choosing an intrument IMHO. I spenta lot of time playing around before choosing my wife...I mean my Taylor 414kce, now with Baggs I-beam goodness!

I have a Taylor 714CE and also one of their nylon string hybrid guitars. They sound GREAT, though I'll admit they're not as 'roadie proof' as the Ovation line is. For stage use, I'll keep my Duotone.gregc
