gibson custom shop

Question

i am looking at acoustics, one has a "custom shop" logo on the back of the headstock. would that realy make it any better than the same model without it. it may be just a special color of the same model, but of course, it costs more. im not sure its better though.

opinions,

those in the know?

i am looking at a SJ 200, one standard, and a custom, and they seem identical. the custom does have Imperial tuning machines, but other than that, why so much $$$ different?

Years ago the Montana made Gibson acoustics were very nice guitars.

The Custom Shop version of the SJ-200 probably has inlays in the pickguard that the regular model does not.

Those guitars are not known for being tone monsters to begin with. You might find one that sounds nice, but never like the acoustic of your dreams. Get one that looks good and feels good. Do not worry about the Custom Shop pre$tige.

A friend who puts on shows at fairs always wanted a J-200. He got one, and it is beautiful. It sounds nice, too. He bought it for the looks, too. His show is a "show." The larger bodied guitar stands out, and it impresses people who know guitars.

Years ago (college) I worked FOH at the UTM Rodeo with special guests, Riders in the Sky. Ranger Doug showed up with a beautiful, natural-finish L-5 - it was HUGE, but had the on-stage impact of which you speak. Great show enjoyed by everyone!
