veatch Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 The Big-GAS Sale continues... Onto microphones. Note - i have a frequency response chart for each mic. I hesitate to post these as they are recorded in a control room, not an an-echoic chamber, and are recording pink noise through non-perfect monitors. As a matter of fact, no sub was used, so the lows will be effected. I can see standing waves in some of the graphs - that is more a reflection of the monitors and the room than the mics themselves. My intent for including the charts is to show that the mics are functional. If someone wants to educate me on why this is a good or bad idea, i'm always interested in learning a little sump'in sump'in. That said... I have plenty of other pics. PM if interested. If there is damage, i have include that in the pics. All prices include shipping via USPS in the continental US, buyer covers PPal fees. AKG C414 XLS Stereo Matched Pair [$old] - Gooood mics. These are goto mics for me. Work well for vocals, even better for instruments. Edit to add - pic does not show the regular mic clips. They are included. AKG C451E (no case) [$old] - great mics. This one works well, but is weaker than the other 451 below. These are *not* matched pairs. Has seen some good use, so the mic has some wear. The capsule is clean. Edit to add - clip now included. AKG C451E (with case) [$old] - much cleaner example of the 451. Great for overheads. Edit to add - clip now included. AKG C1000S / C3000B Set [$old] - The C3000 is a good entry level condenser. I was less impressed with the C1000, but i know smarter folk than i that have found good use for it. AKG D112 [$old] - This one has seen some use - lots of wear, but still works great, especially for kick drum. No clip. AKG Solidtube [$old] - Includes everything - power supply and 6-pin cable. This is an interesting mic. Not well regarded, but i have found it very useful, particularly with female singers with a bluesy edge. I think the gradual high roll-off has something to do with why it works well there. The freq chart below is with the pop-filter installed. Some like to take it out, but i found the mic too similar to other mics with it out. I would say if you were going to get one tube mic, or even one vocal / large diaphragm condenser mic, this is not it. If you already have a few mics and want something different, this might be useful.
veatch Posted June 15, 2016 Author Posted June 15, 2016 Audix OM2 [$old] - Reasonably good stage mic. Found it to be more durable than the SM58, but at the end of the day, i'm using the SM58... EV RE20 [$old] - Great dynamic mic. Love it on kick. Great for voice overs as well. Every mic locker should have at least one. Small wear on the case shown in pic. Rode NT5 Matched Pair [$old] - Reasonably good overheads. Used them effectively for drum overheads in an XY when time was tight. Not as good as Oktava (the Russian ones) or the AKG 451, but good bang for the buck. 797 Audio (Studio Projects) CR616 [$125] - Surprising good sounding for vocals. One turn off is the foam in the case has a strong rubber smell - i had to clean the mic off before use. If you're looking for a cheap but effective mic for vox, this might be a good choice. Sennheiser e602 [$old] - Reasonably good kick mic, for the money, anyways. I used it to mic a bass cab before as well. Get the D112 or the Beta 52 before this, especially for the price. Sennheiser MD421-U [$old] - Great dynamic mic. Goto mic for toms, but i love it on guitar as well - faster response than a 57, so you'll capture better articulation. Sennheiser ND421-U4 [$old] - U4 version of the 421. The clip looks like it was painted or something. Works fine - is nice and snug. Sennheiser MD421-U5 [$old] - The U5 version - most prefer this version, but opinions vary. Has some wear. The case is damaged where the clip gets inserted (always look for this on used MD421s, BTW). I will include a shock mount for this one which holds the mic more securely. The mesh is also disfigured. If you don't mind a shock mount, this could be a cheap way into a 421. Sennheiser Box (MD421 will fit) [$old] - The fact that i have an extra box means someone walked off with one of my 421s... Dern customers... It's not form-fit, but add yer own foam and have a blast. If you're buying other mics and have a use for this, let me know. I'll throw it in no charge. That's how i roll. Sennheiser MD441 [$old] - Excellent mic. Great on sax, and adds an interesting color to vox. The foam in the case has been replaced. Not perfect, but it fits. Clip is solid (the clear plastic ones tend to break easy). Ding on the mesh shown in pic below. Top of mesh has some wear as well, but it is not really clear in the pic.
veatch Posted June 15, 2016 Author Posted June 15, 2016 Shure 520DX (Green Bullet) [$old] - Used maybe twice. Had a harp player come in that didn't have one. Worth every penny, even for just the one job. Send this through a Champ or Blues Jr and howl, baby. Shure Beta 52 [$old] - Good kick drum mic. Clean. Shure Beta 87 [$old] - Good on vox. Have used it dual micing before to "enhance the highs". Clean. No clip. Shure KSM44 [$old] - Great vocal mic. Sounds consistent on most anyone i put it in front of. Plus, it just looks cool. The shock mount is a bit loose, so i wrapped the bands extra to keep it tight. (can see in pic) Works fine that way, or get replacement bands.
anotherfreak Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Awesome! I picked up an AKG 414XLS and paid almost that much, FOR ONE!!! nice deals!
scottcald Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Damn. The AKG 414 is a mic you can use for 99% of anything you'd need to record. They're awesome. If I was in the market, I'd snap them up.
veatch Posted June 17, 2016 Author Posted June 17, 2016 Audix OM2 and the spare Sennheiser box are sold.
