cynic Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 I'm pretty sure it was the Tone Zone (B) and Air Norton (N). That was the best I could find when I researched the same thing years ago when trying to return mine to stock.
tbonesullivan Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Were they still using the dimarzio pickups in 1995? My 1993 diablos had seymour duncans.
Biz Prof Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Not an expert on Diablos, but an educated guess would suggest a SD JB in the bridge position along with a SD '59 in the neck position. I didn't know that Hamer ever went back to DiMarzio after the outsource contract Slammer era.
HoboMan Posted June 20, 2016 Author Posted June 20, 2016 I'm beginning to think these are aftermarket. They look too new for the age of the guitar. Probably going to peak underneath later this evening. Another question, my Diablo has a 5- way switch. The 2 & 4 positions seem to split the coils. Is that stock or aftermarket?

OK, I pulled out the bridge PU and looks like it's a Tone Zone so I'm guessing that the neck is an Air Norton. Sounds really good. Thanks
atquinn Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 The Diablo II's had a Tone Zone in the bridge and a Norton Lite (later officially issued as the Air Norton) in the neck. So I imagine that's what's in your Diablo if it has stock Dimarzios. - Austin
tbonesullivan Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 My two diablos are from 1993, and they have 3 way switches. I would say its highly likely that your diablo has aftermarket electronics. Hopefully they were smart and didn't swap out the pots.

They have black coils with small raised letting on the top of one coil that says "Dimarzio".

Not sure if the pots have been changed or not but the wiring is very tidy with a tie wrap keeping things in place. The 5-way switch is really nice.

I believe all the Diablo II's came with them, so I guess it would be during that run, which would have been sometime in the mid 90s? - Austin
HoboMan Posted June 21, 2016 Author Posted June 21, 2016 My serial number starts with a 5 so that would make it a 95? Mine is a two humbucker model with the slanted neck PU and a non-reverse headstock.

That increases the possibility the pickups are stock. When you have a chance unmount them and check the labels. If they are factory Dimarzios they won't have the usual Dimarzio labels; they'll have OEM ones. Either way, I don't believe the 5-way was ever stock for the Diablos (but it's a great upgrade IMO). - Austin
