tbonesullivan Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 I would think it means Length, WIdth, Thickness? 16 inches wide maybe?
Steve Haynie Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 The colon could denote a ratio like that of the tuning machines.
cynic Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 It means that Hamer couldn't market well on the internet either. The 16 is probably the number in dollars they gave some high school kid to built their site. I don't have a Studio around to measure, but there's no way they're 3" wider than an LP, right?
Hbom Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 Not by any means an expert, but I do have a Studio to measure. My '95 Studio measures about 16" long x 12 3/4" wide x almost 2" thick. Top appears to be right at 5/8" thick. All measurements are approximate as I don't care to scratch it up just to answer this ?. So in answer to OP what the "L,W.T:16 means in the specifications" The 16 refers to length of body. W & T would be width & thickness of body. As for the :, if you look at the Hamer web site you will see that they used a colon after every item when describing the guitars. According to my copy of The Little English Handbook 8th edition. that is a correct usage of a colon. Why the web folks didn't fix the same mistake of only stating length but not thickness or width for every guitar listed on the site is a good question but not a biggie to me. And probably not much concern to many as it's been that way for as long as I been going to that site.

Perhaps I don't know my colon as well as you do yours but I have seen a freshwater starfish in the pool.

I can't explain the difference between Jesus and Muhammad. I can't code a website. And that's just part of a long list of things I can't do. So I make no effort to explain why web designers do or don't do what any reasonable person would think they should do. Or why they never fixed what is an obvious mistake. Nor will I ever believe that the correct or incorrect use of a bunch of colons had much to do with the demise of Hamer Guitar. And I don't know much about colons, but I do have this little book that I try to use to keep myself from looking like a total fool all the time. I was only trying to give my thoughts on the OPs question.

I was only trying to give my thoughts on the OPs question. I was trying to make it into an algebraic equation. All Colons aside, looking at the website, it appears that there probably should have been 2 more dimensions per guitar but only one was supplied which was the length. So they are missing the Width and the Thickness dimensions which would have been separated by commas in the righthand column.
