crunchee Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 http://www.stereogum.com/1914748/sorry-drake-mozart-had-the-best-selling-cd-of-2016/news/ http://www.msn.com/en-us/music/news/giant-mozart-225-box-set-is-2016s-biggest-selling-cd-release/ar-AAlbRnP?OCID=ansmsnnews11 It's supposedly THE 'Best Seller' or 'Biggest Selling' CD release of 2016, though Stereogum points out that the release has actually sold only 6250 sets so far (and counting, I suppose) . There's 200 CDs in the box set, and somehow each CD apparently counts as an individual CD release, or sale, or something. I'm somewhat confused on this, it kinda reminds me of the 'creative' record release trick (and subsequently being counted towards the CD's charting) that Prince did with having his then-new album Planet Earth included free in The Mail On Sunday UK national newspaper several years ago: http://content.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1644427,00.html It also reminds me of this old TV commercial...at the beginning, it makes claims about Slim (and they may have been true at the time, for all that I knew or still know) that, in the pre-Internet Stone Age of my teens, had me laughing my ass off AND calling BS every time it showed up on TV (and back then, that was frequently)...maybe it all depends on the context:
SSII x 2 Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Oh man does that bring back memories. Love how Slim can shift to falsetto on the fly like that.
velorush Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Don't forget, Slim saved the world that one time
Armitage Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I always thought the Slim Whitman guy was some kind of fake claim... apparently not.
