Andrew Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 Just curious - there are three 78/79 Sunbursts with the Dan Armstrong headstock (as well as some later custom jobs with archtops). I know of two 8 0198 and 9 0638.The third is numbered somewhere around 9 0450 - anybody know its whereabouts or have a photo? By the way, the former two can be seen in the sunburst article from the menu above.
Scottcrud Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 why are they called Dan Armstrong headstocks? Why did they change?
kizanski Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 why are they called Dan Armstrong headstocks? Why did they change? Because they are shaped like the headstocks that were on the Dan Armstrongs. They technically didn't "change it" rather they just built these few examples.I think it's easily the best looking headstock ever to grace a Sunburst.
Scottcrud Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 I agree with you KIz, that's whay I asked why they changed it.

I guess you can also call it the snobby and posh custom version of the 70's version. A killer guitar for sure. Lot's of different tone combinations from this baby. disturber edit; And his little brother. Don't have a clue who might have this one in his vault right now?
Andrew Posted January 13, 2006 Author Posted January 13, 2006 Don't worry Disturber, I remembered yours. I mentioned the later archtop custom jobbies, but I am mainly interested in the third one of the flat-tops from 78/79.Thanks for the picture, though. Can I use it when I update my website?Andrew.http://uk.geocities.com/largeat/index.html

Steve Haynie Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 That headstock would look good on just about any Hamer except Standards and Vectors. Too bad it was not used more often.

Andrew Posted January 15, 2006 Author Posted January 15, 2006 Any info on the third flat-top?Serial, I know you have the exact serial number but do you have location or a photo?
