P90s in a Chap?

Question

Posted

After what seems like decades, my Chap project will finally go the luthier next week to be painted. Next up is the pickup question and I really feel like trying something new this time. Has anybody here ever put P90s in a Chap or, for that matter, anything other than PAF style or EMG pickups? I'd love this guitar to sound different than my other Chaps and P90s were the first thing that came to mind. Now I got no idea if they would even fit, let alone work together with what will probably be Strat like single coils in the neck and middle positions.

Any thoughts or recommendations on this?

Thanks, Dan

I just loaded up a client's tele footprint guitar with Rio Grande "Dirty Harry" units and they are pretty P-90'esque if not actually pure under the hood. Highly recommended for those two single coil slots on that body if the strat footprint units are in the same vein. I see they make a "Dirty Harry" bridge bucker too. May be worth researching.

Wolfetone was doing a lot of work on getting his killer P-90s in good looking humbucker housings. Add that to your check-out list too.

Ordered Dirty Harry units for the single coil slots and a Phat Cat for the bridge, really curious how it will work out. Thanks for the advice guys!

Dirty Harrys F-king rule and a Phat Cat in the bridge of a Chap will definitely sound different than all of the other Chaps, that's for sure.

Please stop saying " P90ies." That would make it "pee-ninety-eez."

Maybe he's Aresenio Hall's preacher character from Coming To America and just spelling like he speaks?

And while we're at it, I'll pile on by adding that the plural of P90 is "P90s", not "P90's".

Unless you're trying imply that your P90s are in possession of something....

Sorry for the spelling mistakes, corrections made.

Maybe put one of them there P-Rails pickups from Seymour Duncan in that space. Should require no modifications, and you can rig a push-pull pot to control it.
