Initials under the pickups?

Question

Recently during cleaning I noticed these underneath the neck pickup. Is this code for specs or someone's name -final assembly?

-Nothing under the Bridge pup

Just curious

I think it may be an identifier for whoever this guitar was being built for as a special order perhaps? On several of mine that were special orders for Willcutt and others, I've seen their respective names in the neck pickup cavity.

It's the finish.  I had a Doutone in 59 burst that had 59 in the neck pickup route.

Waiting for Chris Matthes to pipe up on this.  He must be out celebrating his Caps taking down my Pens last night!

I think it's the finish too...

Or FOR Jay-Z.  Maybe.  At least it wasn't built for Lil' Wayne!  :ph34r:

Not sure how, but I missed this one!  (Sorry, Shark!)

That is the finish code ("JZ" = "Jazzburst", "VO" - "Vintage Orange", "59" - "Clownburst", etc.).

Sometimes, other things may be written there too, as mentioned - special dealer runs, artist guitars, a heated game of "Tic-Tac-Toe"...

I'm guessing Chris has pics of a "Tic-Tac-Toe" model......but I'm often wrong.
