Greco experts needed

Question

I know there are some folks here knowledgeable about Grecos and I have an opportunity to pick the one pictured up for what seems like a good deal.  I'll tell you all I know about it and if someone could chime in with what they think it's worth I'd appreciate it.

  • Obviously a Firebird copy in the standard brownburst look
  • The serial number is 0 9180 which I've researched and found could be a 1980 or a 1990.  Any way to know which?
  • It has non-banjo tuners
  • Set neck - not neck thru
  • Plays really good
  • < 8 lbs
  • no case, but a fitted gig bag which is one weird looking gig bag!
  • barely any wear - certainly not enough to bother me

I can't help with anything definitive, but if it turns out you don't go for it, I'd like the info to buy it myself.

I'm pretty sure that would be a 90 model since it doesn't have banjos. I've never owned one but have had other Grecos from the period and they are well built, quality instruments. Value is hard to peg, but I doubt I would pay any more than $800 on the high end, especially without a case. Feel free to PM me if you want.

Also, the only FB model in the 80 catalog has crowns and a maestro bridge.

I had a "Firebird V" Greco that was killer, but it had the banjo tuners, crowns and the Maestro as Curry stated.  I think it was mid-eighties.  Frankly, I'd prefer a model without those tuners as they have, in the immortal words of Kizanski, a "healthy amount of suck".  Don't really know what the market is on the one in question.

Ironic, since I wouldn't buy a Firebird without banjo tuners.

Playing in tune isn't always optimal...

Hardly makes a difference in my case.

For a guy named cynic, you seem pretty trusting!  I haven't said if it's $500 or $2000 and you're ready to buy it?  How much are you looking to spend?  Maybe I can buy it and make a couple hundred bucks flipping it to you! (jk, but your statement seemed with no price stated).

One of the draws for me is it DIDN'T have the banjo tuners.  Not a fan.
