django49 Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Before I lose my nerve and start to choke......Three guitars already sold in the last week. Maybe my timing is good or something.....And then I promise not to post up anything else for a while. First, one from one of the best (IMO) domestic builders. Scott Walker is a world class luthier located in Santa Cruz, California. The Jimson is his take on the Fender Telecaster. SOLD! From his website: The Jimson is based on an American icon, meant to drop right in your lap or on your shoulder. The Body is resonant Sugar Pine similar to the ones being created back in the day. After years of winding T style pickups, Scott has formulated his own. The new Jimson model features hand wound pickups by Scott. With lots of research and development focusing on the "T" style pickups, Scott has cracked the code for an exceptionally clear, full and articulate set of pickups. These feature Alnico 3 magnets, 42 Awg wire, and shellac potting to give just the right amount of liveliness. The neck pickup wire is coated with Plain enamel coating to help accentuate the higher frequencies and the bridge with a heavy formvar to add a little compression and tightness to the sounds. The Alnico 3 magnets, being weaker than the Alnico 5, help with sustain and clarity, making a really usable warm but chimy neck position.Featuring a hand engraved neck pickup cover and over 5 varieties of Italian Celluloid Tortoise to select from for the pick guard. Choice of Sugar Pine, Alder or Swamp ash Hard Rock Maple Neck Rosewood, Ebony or Maple Fretboard 9″ Radius Ebony Fingerboard 25.5″ Scale length 22 frets Master Volume Master Tone 4 Way Pickup Selector Push/Pull for out of phase Choice of pickups This guitar was also ordered with the built in buffer that Scott uses on so many of his guitars. It converts the outgoing signal to low impedance, thereby reducing the loss of clarity, especially over long runs or through pedal boards. In addition, it has the upgrade to a birdseye maple neck. And in virtually mint condition. Scott's current quote for this guitar is $6500. And I am fairly sure the on board buffer and figured neck would add to that. the other relevant thing to note is that his backlog of orders is now approaching THREE years(!) I am asking half that, inclusive of shipping (CONUS).......$3250. Please add payment fees, if necessary. SOLD! !
django49 Posted February 15, 2019 Author Posted February 15, 2019 Next up, from one of my favorites (Yeah, I confess). SOLD! I am offering two different Nik Huber Guitars for sale. These are guitars built in Germany by one of the world's best luthiers. They represent the state of the art in terms of quality, IMO. Not necessarily everyone's cup of tea, but they really work for me. The first is a custom version of the Krautster II. The basic model is an incredible yet "simple" rock and roll machine. The Haussel pickups, one P90 and one hot humbucker, with coil split feature will cover just about any sound you like, and the maple neck adds to the intensity. The base model is a solid body with basic features, with a list price now pushing $4000.....And just try to get a discount from the relatively few dealers! The Custom version has several upgrades. The body is hollow (no f-holes), the finish is an upgrade and the fingerboard is ebony with block inlays and is fully bound. as is the body, front and back, not unlike a Gibson Les Paul Custom would sport. List price on these currently seems to be approaching $6000. Maybe a few hundred less(?)...Check Reverb for the latest...... It has a 25" scale and is very much in the Gibson style, feel wise. But you will be hard pressed to find a Gibson with the same degree of quality, let alone versatility. Again, that is MY opinion. Asking price is $3500, including shipping (CONUS) Add payment fees if necessary. SOLD! I should get some better pictures, but for now.....
Sugartune Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Pfft. That Huber is so nice. Killer deal too. Good luck on the sale! PS, the Walker looks sweet too!
django49 Posted February 16, 2019 Author Posted February 16, 2019 I am going to start having withdrawals pains any minute, but here goes the last one......As per usual,I would prefer to offer them here before descending into some of the snake pits..... The second Huber is a Surfmeister. SOLD While it shares some similarities to the K II, it has a longer (25.5") scale, and features that bring it sort of into the "Gretsch" realm.......Hollow body, Haussel Filtertron type pickups, which as capable of being split for even more versatility. Def some tones that take you away from the typical humbucking pickups. AND, add the Bigsby for added versatility. There are even fewer of these floating around. Last I checked, I think the dealer price for a Surfmeister with a custom color, like this, was similar to the KII Custom. Which is to say, around $5700-5800. Both guitars come with their original hardshell cases and original certificate of authenticity. Take your choice.....$3500 for either one. same terms. Oh, by the way, I still DO have that Huber Junior......... Surfmesiter is also SOLD
Travis Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Wow... you’re unloading some nice stuff. The neck on that walker is sick. But that krautster...
currypowder Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Good lord, that Surfmeister is making me feel all funny inside.
Menehune Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 I really dig that matte treatment on the Surfmeister's hardware, and its circle fretboard markers.
Sugartune Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 What, may I ask, is the purpose and function of the volute on the Walker? Is it a scarf joint? Doesn’t look like one. Looks like a single piece. I understand it on an angled headstock, but not so much on Fender-type...

What I know.....His original claim to fame appears to have come from being the "neck guy" for Santa Cruz guitars. (I am not sure if I have come upon anyone that DOES do neck better. There are pictures available of him hand carving them). I am sure that the bit of extra wood DOES add some strength/stability. But it is also one of his signatures (not totally unlike the signature headstock of Frank Hartung which is rather unique to him). Scott's attention to detail is amazing. Some might even say obsessive. Click to choose files Just two other examples of his work, these involving solid carved Brazilian rosewood necks (one with a padauk strip). And, NO, neither is for sale! How many builders can anyone think of that would use a carved EBONY top for a guitar?
django49 Posted February 21, 2019 Author Posted February 21, 2019 Okay, so two of the three are sold. The Surfmeister remains. The Dude abides. Or something like that. And just in case anyone has some other Huber GAS hanging about, here is a link to the harder to find Huber Junior in an older thread. Howzabout a big price reduction.....To $2250, net to me?

Your marriage is safe.....I thought the Orca was interesting enough to grab some pictures to share. But there were some"issues" with the guitar that the seller did not quite answer and that kept me from actually moving on it. Not that I NEEDED more stuff, y'unnerstand......MAYBE if it had been $500 less......
django49 Posted March 7, 2019 Author Posted March 7, 2019 The Huber Junior is also sold. Thanks everybody!

Dutchman Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 I just noticed the scrolling on the horns of the lighter Walker. That is off the hook awesome craftsmanship!!!
