Lockbody Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 So I buy Cajunboy's Standard Custom on Friday... and a Good Friday it was, too. Anyhoo, when I send him the email saying "I'll take it!" I joke: "How about meeting me halfway in Mississippi?" Well, he couldn't drive halfway, but he did agree to meet me in MS so we could avoid picking which shipping company to risk not to break my new guitar. We agree on a 10:00am meeting at the McNeill Travel Center at exit 15. Too early to be up and driving on a Saturday, but LB Wife, LB Pup, and myself are GO! After LB Pup forces an extended stop, she wonders if we're gonna make that 10am meeting on time. Damn! I call TheCajunBoy to inform him that we're running a little behind and he agrees to drive a little farther North to save some time. What a trooper. We agree to meet now at this fine establishment Here's me, CajunCub, and The CajunBoy himself doing the deal. I think there was a hair of seller's remorse when I strummed the first chord and he remarked: "I forgot how good that guitar rang out" and he's right, too! I've never had a guitar that was so loud accoustically. Notice how we both wore HFC shirts to recognize each other. Things got down to serious business real quick when he whipped out his Studio Custom with the CajunBurst finish on it. The quilt top looks almost 3D, and I'm a sucker for ebony fingerboards and the lack of any dots or other marker just takes that guitar over the top. Very Cool. Oh yeah, Sustain Block, too. And here's me, slackjawed, playing my new love. The first 24.75" guitar that felt like coming home the minute I put it on. Mark, you were super cool to drive to meet me. It was a pleasure doing business with you and I hope to see you at the US World Grand Prix when we get it.
Guest galejt Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 Awful...Looks like it got a good home. You can relax Pa.
Lockbody Posted March 26, 2005 Author Posted March 26, 2005 I bet. I got a rundown from thecajunboy. It's the "Pizza Day" Standard. Like every other Hamer guitar I've bought and sold, I wonder "What kind of fool would let this guitar go?".
AdmiralB Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 Like every other Hamer guitar I've bought and sold, I wonder "What kind of fool would let this guitar go?". It was the last 24.75 scale guitar I had. It's a beauty, for sure.
Lockbody Posted March 26, 2005 Author Posted March 26, 2005 I love how the sunburst is not as severe between the colors. Very smooth fade to red.
BCR Greg Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 Notice how we both wore HFC shirts to recognize each other. As if the pee marks on the pavement wouldn't lead you to him.....
foodermon Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 "I forgot how good that guitar rang out" and he's right, too! I've never had a guitar that was so loud accoustically. I'll attest to that! I've played and bonded with that guitar. Very nice subtle burst and great player! Enjoy!
thecajunboy Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 Bob, It was a pleasure meeting you and your family. The jaunt into Mississippi wasn't that bad either, except the state police had us locked down on the 70 mph speed limit. I was able to bore my son to death dragging him through every pawn shop all the way home. Nice little mini photo-essay. I should have posed myself a little better. Looking at those pictures you'd swear I've got a bad back, humped gear all day Friday, went to bed late, got up early and drove to Mississippi. Enjoy the guitar.

Jeff R Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 Ya lucky your shoes are still dry.I've taken that one on a spin or two. Sweet guitar!

Looking at those pictures you'd swear I've got a bad back, humped gear all day Friday, went to bed late, got up early and drove to Mississippi. Enjoy the guitar. The pleasure was/is all mine. I was really bummed earlier in the week when a deal for a Standard I was looking at fell through, but my wife and I always say everything happens for a reason and it's certainly true in this case. I really like the smaller neck carve of this guitar which probably turns a lot of this crowd away. Very comfortable for me. I don't think I would like a newer one as much. I tell ya, I was all prepared to dislike this Air Classic in the bridge. My Mirage II has one in the neck, so I knew what to expect there, but I didn't think I would like a lower-output bridge pickup like the A.C. as opposed to the Breed in my Mirage II or the Parallel Axis in my Cali. Boy was I wrong. All those pickups seem to do is add a lot of midrange that my Boogie already has in spades. Plus, the Mk IV has so much gain available, you almost cannot tell the difference in output. In fact, neither of those guitars sound very good with the eq turned off on the Boogie. Always thought it was the amp "Geez, why would anybody use this amp without the eq?". Looks like it's new pickup time for the Cali. Maybe that Steve's Special with about the same tonal qualities as the A.C. Did you find any Hamers while pawnshop hunting? Seems like it would've been hard to say "What is that thing.... a Ham Mer....?" with that HFC t-shirt on.
kizanski Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 The Air Classics are amazing in that guitar. I thought so as well (I, being one of the fools that let it go).The Legend of the Pizza Day Standard lives!Good luck to the new owner!
Lockbody Posted March 27, 2005 Author Posted March 27, 2005 As I packed up my Daytona, which I sold to buy a new camera, I thought to myself "You are such a dummy. You're gonna want a guitar like that again real soon."Yep.
