Fire at Boutique Amps Distribution Factory

Just picked up on this from one of the Facebook groups I am in. Boutique Amps Distribution makes pedals and amps for a bunch of different brands, including Friedman, Wampler, Egnator, Soldano, Morgan, Synergy, Tone King, Matthews Effects, and possibly some others. It was a large fire, now out, and it looks like it consumed part of the building they were a part of. While their area did not burn, there is still going to be water, smoke, etc other damage.

This was from Avi Elkiss, who RUNS BAD.

"Our manufacturing building was ablaze earlier this evening. The fire department did an amazing in preventing the fire from consuming the entire structure. These fire fighters are true heroes.

The back portion of the building (which is occupied by another tenant) is completely gone. Our hearts go out them. We will have to wait till tomorrow to see the extent of the damage to our side. The electricity is completely shut off and the building is under a foot of water. We will be shut down for a while, but it could have been WAY WAY worst.
Thank you to everyone for the well wishes..."

Now is the time to play acoustic.  You might want to find an old Mossman for that.

Wow, so sad

I've got a buddy with an old Mossman, great guitar, There's a youtube clip with Dave F giving a tour of that building. Lotsa fantastic music making equipment assembled there!!

Mossman lost a lot of premium wood.  One has to wonder about the losses of good materials lost in this recent fire.  Were they stockpiled on hard to get electronic components?

Had a Mossman Flint Hills back when Stu was building them.  Lost mine in a divorce.  There's one more or less like it down the street from me, had the same bracing design flaw but both were incredibly responsive guitars.

Right now they haven't been able to find out much, as most likely the building is probably still closed up while the engineers check the structure and the fire dept makes sure it's all out.  Wampler posted about it on FB, and said that they really don't know specifics yet.

From what I heard there was a wall and/or firewall between BAD and the part of the warehouse that went up. But, looks preeeetty badd

What was the flaw?

The top brace between the soundhole and the neck block was too small to take the pressure from the end of the fingerboard.  I've seen a couple where the area between the soundhole and the end of the fingerboard is collapsed or badly deformed.  Admittedly it's only a half-dozen or so original Mossmans I've seen, but a neighbor who used to build for Santa Cruz knew all about it.  He's older than me and has been inside just about everything, so between our two experiences, I have to call it a design flaw.  Damn shame about Stu.
