BoogieMKIIA Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 One of the few that didn't swap out the mini-humbuckers. Great tone and playing.
Steve Haynie Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 I love those ARS albums. I am glad I got to see the original lineup once. It would have been nice to see them more often, though.
hamerhead Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Another guitarist I didn't appreciate until much later on. Highly underrated/overlooked. R.I.P.
Willie G. Moseley Posted March 17, 2022 Author Posted March 17, 2022 This link was sent to me by a veteran guitarist who was influenced a lot by Bailey. It's from May 1992; homemade but sonically decent. The outro solo is to die for in terms of exactly-what's-needed phrasing, and I done a double take at the quick pinch harmonics at around the 5:10 mark. https://youtu.be/vea42Z0j7KA
Steve Haynie Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 Willie, you started me off on a string of youtube videos and looking up ARS dates. What really sucks it that the current band is booked as the opener for an Eagles tribute act, complete with overpriced tickets.
Willie G. Moseley Posted March 17, 2022 Author Posted March 17, 2022 ...and the current band ain't bad at all . Justo is the only original member but Stone's been onboard for 36 years. When I heard 'em a few years ago, I was particularly impressed with "Conversation", which they stretched out into a chugging jam that reminded me somewhat of some early Grateful Dead stuff, like maybe "China Cat Sunflower" on Europe '72 which worked its way into "Know You Rider"
Steve Haynie Posted March 17, 2022 Posted March 17, 2022 I like watching Steve Stone and David Anderson playing all the guitar parts. There seems to be some freedom for them in the solos. Willie, do you know which amps Barry Bailey was playing through in that video? There are Peavey and Marshall amps behind him.
Willie G. Moseley Posted March 17, 2022 Author Posted March 17, 2022 I'm 99% sure it was his 50-watt Marshall, which was as much of a regular item for him for decades, as was his Les Paul Deluxe
