The (original) Dictators' cover of "Search and Destroy"

I haven't heard this in over 40 years, and happened to recall it recently, which mandated a youtube search. I was, er, "out of it" pretty much in late '77 due to a divorce but I did own the 'Tators' first two albums and had really gotten into this cover of a Stooges song, which actually wasn't as potent as the Tators' version, which straddled hard rock and punk, IMO.

After four decades, it still rocks, and I'm still impressed

I did a version on my 4 track playing all the instruments way back in college, wish I still had a copy.

I like this version;

I did this 'Tators tune;

Dictators definitely under-rated...      I have "Go Girl Crazy,   immediately spotted a handful of familiar

riffs...       Twisted Sister, The Ramones and The Deadboys defintely had this album in their collections...

 Forgot...  Mark the Animal Mendoza played for both of them.

Going to see the Damned and Dictators in SF in May. Super stoked, Ross the Boss is one of my favorite players.

Highly recommend Manitoba’s Wild Kingdom which Ross The Boss plays on…   Big dumb rock but delivered so unapologetically, it’s actually refreshing.   One of my favorite under the radar hard rock slabs of the 80’s.

The very first "commentary' I ever had published in a national magazine was a letter to the editor in Creem magazine in 1976. Therein I postulated that Handsome Dick Manitoba and the MC5's Rob Tyner were the same person.

Details: Cited "Rocket Reducer No. 62 (Rama Lama Fa Fa Fa)" and "Master Race Rock" as pretty much the same song (with some Ramones-ish "Let's Go" cheerleading thrown into the latter tune), as they were both the final song on Side One of each band's debut album.  Moreover, the two singers each had humongous Afros for white guys....

Gotta admit it was a cool experience and inspirational to see it in print. Creem was a huge influence (and hugely entertaining) in its heyday.

Elduave's brother-in-law is J.P. "Thunderbolt" Patterson, for an HFC-adjacent reference.  ;)

“Under the Blade”, hell yeah! Best TS record, hands down. Tempos are a bit constrained, but solid production and catchy tunes. This live version of, “Shoot ‘em Down”, is what turned me on to TS. Features an epic rant by Dee:
