It is really fascinating to me what a band has to endure to make it and what goes on that we never really hear about whether it be good or not so good.

Frank Zappa once said in an interview that if you want to see another album, you have to buy the current album. If you want another tour, you have to see this tour. One pays for the next.
RichRS6 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 This is the reason I have never downloaded anything for free.I rarely download anything actually and prefer to have the actual C.D. in my hands.If I really want it, I'll happily pay for it.It's seriously killing the chances for real bands who create original music to make a living.IMO the illegal downloaders are to blame for so much gash being churned out by the music "industry" who have realised that in order to make any money the mainstream audience has to be their main target.They can market, cash in, dispose of and move on to the next big thing with very little investment on their part and get maximum return.No need to have an A&R department investing in real talent when they can pick up the next big wannabees who have already had maximum exposure on prime time T.V.every Saturday.GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR..........................
zorrow Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Because I've misbehaved myself, I understand very well the damage illegal downloading causes. I've never stopped purchasing albums from the artists I really like (being HELL one of them -I own three copies of their first album). However, an artist I listen to just casually can easily be victim of illegal downloading from my part -or I just go listen to his/her stuff for free in YouTube. That's the essence of the harm: casual fans will tend to avoid purchasing music they just don't care about that much. And sadly, the market share of casual fans is HUGE respect to true fans'. In any case, I wish you all the best, Kev. You're making it anyway, and we HFC'ers are all very proud of what you have accomplished so far -I just hope to see you guys around here someday.
