Factree Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Here it is! Its awesome playing, and sounding! Does anyone else think the book match is off on the top? Its the ultimate. I swear I have the worst guitar neurosis in the world, and I need help...I find flaw with everything even this gem. Here it is:
DavidE Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 I think that book matching technique has been discussed on this board before. Frankly, I'm in your camp as I like to see the top as a mirror image, not offset like they did here. But Hamer and a lot of others do it this way and it still looks awesome!
mirrorimij Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Nice GuitarThat top is definately bookmatched. I've split/bookmatched a lot of tops over the years and it looks right. Most are not exactly a mirror image of the other side due to sanding, slippage while clamped, etc. In your case I would say it is a great top on a great guitar.
veatch Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 As Borat would say, "Very niiiice...." Love the bound F-holes and the ebony fretboard. (That is ebony, right? Sometimes camera angles play tricks... ) The top looks great. Overall, a very nice looking guitar. How does it sound and play?
Guest pirateflynn Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Brother, that is gorgeous! What color is the top ... Aztec?
Factree Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 Brother, that is gorgeous! What color is the top ... Aztec? Its Aztec Gold. Its actually a newport pro BE, with a flame top. So it has an ebony board, and a totally maple body. The top doesn't look very much like flame to me either. I ordered ultimate flame, but to me it looks more along the lines of quilt...

Nice looking guitar.-Austin

gwayne Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Very beautiful Newport. When I ordered mine, I was torn between Tortoise and Aztec. Aztec Gold is just a classic color. I personally love the top and would rate it as Ultimate. I prefer the loose, varied flame over a tight flame, especially in that color. As for the bookmatching being "off", I've never seen any guitar where the seam is matched all the way down. Some PRSi have a portion that is closely matched, then it seems to drift. I think it adds character myself.I'm rambling - congrats on the Newport, I think it's Hamer's finest design.
