Kilroy is all about... Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I'm moving out the electrics in my life and only playing my Taylor RNielsens (got 2 and my GESMITH les paul and Rick Nielsen's Malcolm Young Gretsch) so these coveted 4-digits gotta go, along with some other Fender Strats and Tele's, plus some Les Pauls and Flying Vees... What sells, goes and what doesn't go downstairs into the Bizarre Guitar vault... First, there's 0150 in black opaque, bound and crowned, original case, and all original, including a little 'overspray' on the back of the neck. $4.75k plus shipping. Previous owners are both Matthes (serial and fancy-pants) boyz and Captain "pirateflynn' who by the way did a wonderful job of a refret and polish it up righteously. This guitar's condition is very clean with very few blemishes. old serial taken photos from a couple of years ago. Next up, 0225 in 'blond' mapletop and its all original but for the restamped serial number. It is rare and plays great and sounds huge. Here's the story: summer of '79 a teenage wins a lottery to purchase the guitar, which was highly coveted in Wisconsin during the hey-day of CheapTrick. Apparently, the new owner had it for less than a month prior to it getting stolen and found in a pawn-shop a few weeks later. The guitar, sans a gouged out serial number, is returned to the original owner, who sells it to Serial several years later. In '05 I purchased it from Serial and just recently, with Serial's assistance, reviewed the records and had it restamped with old late 70 british honduras wood and original hamer stamps. $3.75k plus shipping... This guitar is in player's condition with lots of dings, scratched, attempted touches, etc, BUT it plays easy and sound great. Please use this PM or rgkilroy@yahoo.com if you're interested as I'm motivated to move these pieces and will entertain reasonable offers and/or payment plans. kilroy posts...
murkat Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I hate you. I dont know how... but I want the black one. I hate hate.jay
serial Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I bought the natural one from the original owner who was a musician in Wisconsin. Apparently that was the first Standard at that dealer or in the state (I forget which), but there were only a small handful of Standards and even smaller number of dealers worldwide. He won a waiting list lottery and was able to purchase the guitar (there were lots of people on the list apparently) and it got ripped shortly after he bought it at a gig. Turned up in a pawn shop a week or two later-they were pretty unique guitars then as well, so it wasn't easy to hide! This is one of maybe four or five that are done like Rick's #0004 in yellow trans/natural with dots and the wide 12th fret spacing jest lahk Rick's.
cmatthes Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I found the black one hanging in a used gear shop locally a few years ago. I assumed it was a late '90s reissue at first because it was so damned clean. I freaked when I saw the serial number and got a close up of the headstock...That one is firmly ensconced in the "guitars I wish I'd never sold" hall of fame!
Hamerphite Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Really nice geetars! The overspray on the back of the neck, is that black overspray to cover a wear mark?
Kilroy is all about... Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 Really nice geetars! The overspray on the back of the neck, is that black overspray to cover a wear mark?No confirmation from Hamer regarding the overspray, but that overspray could've been for covering a wear spot on the neck. thanks for the bump/question. rk
Guest pirateflynn Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 You'd be hard pressed to find a better looking Standard than #0150. It is something to behold in person. It's a lighter weight, smokey toned beauty.
elduave Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 #0225 should have never left the East Coast. I'd *almost* flip the Zandard to fund it, where it not for the obvious attachments. I hope whoever ends up with 225 lets us know, so we can follow along!Edited to add, this is my "most desireable Hamer to come up for sale" that of course I can't swing. Love that thing.
clmazza Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 WOW! Two real beauties! Good luck with the sale... wish I could swing 0225
