  1. Yeah, but he's not accessing much of anything these days. Bah! He accessed enough for long enough to be considered a true guitar hero. Most of us will never make it that far... nor that high --hoping he's in Heaven now.
  2. This guitar is addictive. I like the way its neck feels, and I like it A LOT. The sound however is not what I prefer. The neck pickup is great, but the bridge doesn't give me the "attack" I'm used to. Too sweet for my tastes. So, I definitively will try other pups for the bridge position. Can anyone please recommend me something? Preferably a Seymour Duncan, as I don't want to change both pickups. BTW, The stock pups are the unlogoed Deans. I haven't tried them yet. I'm also wondering how humbucking-sized P-90's would sound on this guitar. I definitively want an "edgier" sound than what I'm getting now.
  3. The stock Dean pickups were replaced by Duncan JB (bridge) and Jazz (neck). I got the stock pups too. I might try them later. Any hint about their sound? Yes, which is surprising, given its size. Just my neighbor veteran HFC'er. But his opinion is important because he knows about guitars, and in addition he's my friend.
  4. The neck I would say it's between a "C" and a "D" shape. The thickness should be medium+. I like this neck a lot. Very comfortable to play. The fretboard is ebony. That's very slippery; I'm more used to rosewood. The frets are medium jumbo, I think. The action is set the way I like it: not very low, but not high. The fretboard feels very "fast", probably also because the radius seems to be wider than my Vectors'. About the sound now: it's actually very sweet. Compared to my Vectors, the later sound more "cutting", while the Dean is way smoother. To give you an idea, when played unplugged it sounds almost like a classic guitar: loud and clear, with a lot of richness in the mid range and loads of sustain. When plugged, it has almost no "chug". The "Fenderish" "snap" I get from my Vectors (supposedly from the sutainblocks, or so I believe) is not there at all. This guitar vibrates just transparently, like a nylon guitar, though it does handle well my high gain settings --the distorted rhythm tone through my rig is "thick" or "dense", never harsh or aggressive, but it's not muddy either. By the way, I did the test of trying to find the notes when tapping the neck and the body. The body seems to be tuned to Eb, while the neck is definitively G. That means they are a major third apart, which is a consonant interval, so it should be ok --according to Steve Vai's criteria for evaluating the natural resonance of guitars.
  5. I wanted a Korina V and I was also caressing the idea of getting a Dean guitar. Suddenly, a Czech-made beauty arrives and it's a Dean V and... it's Korina too! And what do I do? Well, I grab it without hesitation! So, meet now my new acquisition --BTW, inspected and approved by no other than Nick himself! Enjoy! Cool, isn't it?
  6. Great access to the higher frets... for players like Jeff Healey.
  7. I love Hamer, don't get me wrong. I plan to purchase a no-pickguard (back routing) Korina Vector probably in middle/late 2010 --I have other priorities at this point. In the not-so-near future I might also order a new Vector made to my specs --it will be like "my dream". All that said, it's still true new USA-made Hamers are beyond the reach of normal "working musicians", and that's a shame IMHO.
  8. You forgot Carvin. I was stunned by my friend's custom bass. I've also tried that model Marty Friedman used to play (it looks like an odd Explorer) and it's so comfortable you will be playing it for hours just for the pleasure of touching and feeling its fretboard. I understand however Hamer doesn't want to play in that league anymore.
  9. I disagree. It's full of contradictions, the most glaring of which is the desire for cheap American-made products. Which do you want? Cheap or American made? The two don't typically go together. "Affordable" <> "cheap"
  10. Dudes, someone BUY THIS THING NOW!
  11. ^Seriously, this is one of the smartest posts about the subject I've ever read around. BTW, not so long ago I tried two Dean Vees and they were just amazing --two big, sound WOW's! Therefore, I can live now with those headstocks, so it's maybe "time to get my wings"...
  12. I love those GT. This is the kind of stuff that pops around very rarely, so please someone do himself a favor and buy it right now. Well, it could be me, but I don't really need more guitars --I have in fact one guitar (a Vector) for sale around here. So, I'll pass this time. Good luck with the sale!
  13. I didn't know you were in Baghdad! Good luck, man, and stay safe. Cheers!
  14. I voted Mercyful Fate. I am a big fan, but in addition they are certainly quite influential and original. I would have gone next with Death and Megadeth, in that order, if I had voted more than once. Edited to add: Is there any other band actually deserving the 6th position more than Mercyful Fate?

  16. Well, Nick kept two guitars of mine for a looooong while and there were no issues at all. I've also kept for months high-value guitars I've borrowed from my bandmate, and of course, I take care of those like if they were my own eyes. I guess then it depends to whom you lend your guitars.
  17. I have a white Centaura Slammer Series which is my preferred shredder EVER.
  18. I read on TGP he has terminal cancer. And that he struck a deal with Lace to make his pups. And I don't want to wait 6 months to get them - instant gratification is a beyotch. : ) Oh! Bad news! But when I ordered my L-500's three or four years ago, my order only took two weeks. I would call them anyway then.
  19. Why don't you call Bill Lawrence himself? Go to his site: http://www.billlawrence.com
  20. This was sooo funny! I was practicing this morning with my Double-D'ed Vector and my new Java Boost pedal (which BTW I got from Rob here --thanks mate!) and suddenly my amp tuned to a radio station in Portuguese or something... It was like "Calypso, calypso!", he, he. Funny as hell! It's the first time in my life this happens to me. Well, I guess I have to work a little more on the shielding of my guitar... or learn to play that kind of stuff.
  21. Dude, don't let it go... That's a hell of a guitar!
  22. Well, I guarantee you that playing hard rock, metal, glam rock, punk, pop rock or pop is more fun than playing gothic --Seriously! Because players in those genres still have blood running through their veins.
  23. That's what I wanted to know... Thanks a lot!
  24. Has anyone ever seen humbucker-sized mounting rings for Burns Trisonic pups? I actually wonder if that's doable. I know a guy who can do that kind of custom job, but I have no idea if the Trisonics will need extra routing on a guitar already routed for humbuckers. Can someone here tell me, please?
