Vai is the best. Ever. Period. Congrats to your son! -

Epic! Congrats to all. +1 and +1 -
...and with as many options as you might wish, almost like in the eighties. In short, why complaining? Jol's moving on, Hamer's moving on... and so we all should!

It is what it is --it looks great to me, BTW. Now an anecdote related to this: I went to the last Montreal Guitar Show and tried every single guitar available. Many of them were true works of art, but just two of them really impressed me about their playability and tone. So, who cares if Jol is no longer targeting our niche market? I personally got over it already. Now it's good for him... and also good for us. Can we ask for a better outcome?

covers that are way better than the originals
zorrow replied to DaveL's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Four come quickly to my mind: 1- "Anna", performed by The Beatles: . This one was actually written and previously performed by Arthur Alexander, but the Beatles made a huge hit out of it.2- "The Great Pretender", performed by Freddie Mercury: . IMHO, The Platters' version pales in front of the flamboyant performance and mannerisms of "Sir Gaga". 3- "The Ripper", performed by Mercyful Fate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6-E_qBHXBQ. It sounds to me way more menacing than the original by Judas Priest, in spite of it being already a classic. King Diamond delivers with his pitchy-but-still-cool vocals. In addition, the guitar tones of both Denner and Sherman absolutely rock. 4- "Whiter Shadeof Pale", performed by Michael Schenker: . I don't dare to say it's better than the original, but I simply LOVE this guitar-oriented arrangement and Michael's fills. It also sounds to me quite "Queen-ish", and Queen is my favorite band, so... Well, hope you enjoy all of them as much as I do. -
A link please? I wouldn't mind to share a couple of millions with the guitarist of my preferred metal band at this very moment.

Guthrie Govan is in his own league. Got chops, tone and musicality for loads. One of the best players out there for sure! I still like Lady Gaga and Grace Potter better though.

Error 404 my side -did you remove the samples from your dropbox?

V for Zorrow!!!!
zorrow replied to mc2's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
I'm sorry to disappoint you, man, but I don't really like it that much. I do like the shape and even don't hate the finish... but the Kahler's not my thing. Also, it's crying METAL just too loud for my tastes -wait a minute... did I say that? -
I'm telling you Austin, call Mick, tell him what you're looking for, I'm positive he can get you something you'll love. +1000 - Mick's an absolutely dependable guy, and his pups are up there with the bests. I'm actually planning putting a set of Manliuses on my Korina V.
-
Forgot to mention Manlius. He might have something for you as well. His pups are in addition fairly priced, even if they still are "boutique", USA-made pups. Have a look to this one, for example: http://www.manliusguitar.com/hotrod.html I have a Manlius on one of my Deans and it is a fabulous humbucker.

Whats the Last 5 Albums you've bought?
zorrow replied to bubs_42's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
curious, does this mean you stopped aquiring new music, or that you just stopped paying for it? not flaming ya, serious question. I bet it's the later! PS: No judgement though. I am no saint, and I guess we all (even if many of us are working musicians) still download music illegally. My side, I just purchase albums from the bands I really like, as well as from some artists I want to support for some personal and/or philanthropic reasons. -

Been thinking about buying that one for a little while already. Brian May is my preferred guitar player ever, but I don't know why I hesitate so much in buying Kerry's album. -

Accept - "Blood of the Nations" (Japanese Edition) HELL - "Human Remains" Ghost - "Opus Eponymous" Lady Gaga - "Born This Way" Herman Frank - "Loyal To None" Strongly recommend both Accept and HELL albums. As of Ghost. they are sort of pop/doom/stoner metal with satanic lyrics. Gaga, well... you know. And Herman Frank's solo album is generic hard rock with a metal edge --excellent playing, vocals and production, but nothing new there. -
I named mine's "Lady Tone".
-
Indeed! Sometimes I actually feel regretful about having sold it, but at least I know it's in good hands.

You're welcome! I've been into Annihilator since their very first album, "Alison Hell", but my preferred one is their second, "Never Neverland", which in my opinion is a metal masterpiece. Sadly, the band never achieved mainstream success. About Jeff's Hamers, just remembered now I owned a white Vector which was very close to his custom Vectors. The main differences were the pickups, which were OBL's in mine's, and the hardware was gold, but besides the finish and those two details, it was very close to Jeff's. I sold that guitar to a fellow HFC'er because I needed the money at that moment, and he was in love with that guitar anyway. Here, some pictures of it:
-
I know quite a bit about Jeff Waters and Annihilator. He owned two custom Hamer Vectors, which he played from 1988 to 1991 (more or less). Both were all-mahogany and had boomerang inlays. The black one had the Annihilator logo in red. The red one had the Annihilator logo in black. He told me he gave his Hamers away to a friend. No idea where they are now. Jeff has also played a Gibson Flying V and an ESP Mustaine signature, but several years ago, he made Ran (the Polish guitar maker) to build him two Annihilator Vees and two Explorers, like these ones: Recently, he is endorsing Epiphone, with his new signature Annihilator V. I played the red one at the guitar clinic he gave last year here in Montreal: It's a great guitar, but the neck is too thin for my tastes. About his other gear, he is currently using a Hughes and Kettner Coreblade head, a Digitech Whammy pedal... and I think that's all what you find in his pedalboard at this moment --if I remember well.
