  1. I'd do something memorable. Acoustic - the music from the "Eastern Motors" car spots (if you live around Balt-DC you know this ditty) Electric - Miserlou. You can do that on acoustic too.
  2. I wasn't following Bonnaroo at all but when I found out that JPJ performed and then stuck around to jam with just about everyone I kicked myself. Youtube has a bunch of stuff: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_quer...p;search=Search Highlight was JPJ, Ben Harper, and ?uestlove jamming to Led Zep classics.
  3. Southern Culture On The Skids. Saw 'em once in a bar in Blacksburg, late 80s timeframe, saw them every now and then on TV. Never broke it big or moderately big.
  4. I gig with a Lonestar with EL-34s. I like the tone but mainly I like the huge functionality. I would like to have a Lonestar Special or a 5-25 or a Stiletto Ace.
  5. Our singer is actually a very good keyboard player...when he wants/needs to be. Aiiieee!! Digital horns drive me nuts. I guess if the patch was authentic enough I could live with it.
  6. I've been wanting to do a J Geils song for awhile but I can't get the rest of the guys interested in 'Give It Up,' my fave. Centerfold or Love Stinks might go over better with them. If I was in an 80s band I would do Jenny Jenny in a heartbeat. How do you do Jungle Boogie without a horn section?? That keeps us from doing things like 'Domino' by Van Morrison and 'Vehicle' by Ides of March. To answer the original question, it all depends on the time of the evening and the type of crowd, but we get dancers for Honky Tonk Woman Roadhouse Blues Pink Cadillac (we play it Bang a Gong style) Brown Eyed Girl Mustang Mama Dont Dance Takin Care of Business Fire Down Below
  7. I thought you had to use Boogie matched tobes. Is the Road King not self-biasing?
  8. General question: Is this Hamer or Kamen doing the custom run? Yes. Thanks, highly informative! EDITED TO ADD: It was my understanding that Hamer doesn't have anything to do with the import line, that it is purely a Kamen product line using the Hamer name.
  9. General question: Is this Hamer or Kamen doing the custom run?
  10. So, how much is a 'custom color upcharge' for reference? http://www.hamerguitars.com/img/custserv/pricelist_hamer.pdf Listed as "Change Finish to Non-Stock Finish" Change finish to non stock option - $300. Greg's initial comment - "...the cool thing is that these guitars will sell for not much more than a custom color upcharge on a USA." Therefore, taken extremely literally, these guitars will cost a bit more than $300!!! Cool work, Greggers.
  11. From what others have said here, I would say the Hamer that sounds most like an LP is the Monaco Elite.
  12. That, and Buh Weet Sings. I remember seeing the Talking Heads doing Once in a Lifetime, Puff Daddy rapping over Kashmir with Jimmy Page, and, of course, Britney Spears.
  13. This is the unavoidable byproduct of having ten inductees per year. Pretty soon you run out of the really deserving and have to induct Van Halen, REM, and Men Without Hats long before they deserve.
  14. JB was one of my main musical influences. What I learned from him was that rhythm and groove are number one, so make the drums, bass, and guitar play as one massive rhythm instrument. In JB's band the drums drove the train and everyone else reinforced. I think it cost him popularity, as melody sort of took a back seat. Who will take the torch now?
  15. I'm not too old to play our stuff, but I AM getting too old to put up with bar owners that try to screw me, bar owners who double book, booking agents who try to limit my exposure so they can book their boyfriend's band more frequently, book agents who have rooms tied up so tight you can't get in the room, bar patrons who believe a bandstand is very much like a music store in that you should have free access to mess around with the band's instruments, and bar managers who rank us lower than delivery men in their priorities.
  16. You could see the seeds of Satanism already!!
  17. Last night I tried it out through a '59 Bassman reissue. The neck pup sounds fine, the bridge sounds like a '59 which means not enough midrange body for me. The middle position sounds as if they might have done the Peter Green magnet rearrange on one of the pups.
  18. This was waiting for me when I got home from work today (sorry for the crappy pic): The color is more charcoal than black, the flame really pops out like a PRS. The neck is medium, the action great. Now all I need is to decide what kind of bridge pup to audition and I'll be set. Leaning towards trying out a Fillmore.
  19. Hey, this isn't YOUR guitar! I might not, we'll see.
  20. Since chambered Elites are few and far between and there doesn't seem to be any black Superpros, I decided to settle for this one: I think I'll swap the pickup rings for black and the bridge pup for something else.
  21. I'm jonesin to try one of these out but it has to be a verrrrrry specific one. For an Elite I want a soundchamber, although this is probably not likely. It's a tradeoff for me - I like 24.75" scales and soundchambers, but neither have both, stock anyway. For either I want either indigo or trans black. Flametop or quilt, but the flame must be flamey and the quilt must be quiltly. If you know what I mean. Used. Used. Not new, used. Not interested in making a special order right now. I'm watching a trans black Elite on Ebay, might pull the trigger. I see a lot of trans black and indigo Elites, relatively speaking, on Ebay for some reason. Never seen a trans black Superpro. The only indigo Superpro I recall seeing is Elduave's. I'm also looking for your standard red Monaco III. I've seen a few for sale here but only in natural or jazzburst, two finishes I don't really like much. But if I find the black/blue Elite or Superpro I'll prolly hold off on the III for a while.
  22. Marty, I'm very sorry to read this, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
  23. I'm keepin' my eye on Ebay for a trans black Hamer. I saw a Monaco Elite there the other day but I didn't like the flame, and I'm not sure the Elite is what I want. Maybe a trans black Artist, don't think I've seen one yet.
