Impromptu Cajun HFC gathering starts NOW!!
HamerHokie replied to Jeff R's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Timing! I'm coming to New Orleans for a conference on Sunday and leaving on Tuesday... -
I went back to see if I could find the patch that turned me off, but it looks like they've redone their samples section. Now, there are different Marshall tones and the one that I like best is the Plexi, heavy midrange voicing as opposed to, say, the JCM 800 voicing. So I am looking for something specific. I will check out Youtube.

I went to their website once and listened to the MP3s. Was not that impressed with their Marshall patches. Didn't go much further.

I just read today that he had moved on from Alison Krauss to this new project. It seems he's been in a bunch of projects lately - The Strange Sensation, the Krauss collaboration, and now this. Band of Joy was also the name of his pre-Zep band with John Bonham.

iRig IK Amplitube problems
HamerHokie replied to zenmindbeginner's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
In a related matter, I am seriously frustrated that no one has ported Amplitube to Droid OS. -
Profile link spam, as spam goes, is pretty benign. It doesn't impact the function of the boards, and it actually makes the forum more popular, thus more authoritative, in the eyes of Google. One easy way to eliminate link spam is to make profiles 'private.' If you can only view another member's profile when you're logged in, profile links have no value. Another way is to make all outgoing links 'nofollow.'

I never understood how "The Customers" that wanted Hamers took a back seat to Jol's vision? It doesn't make business sense, nor does it seem respectful to those Customers who truly loved/love our Hamers. This also illustrates one of the most infuriating things Hamer did during Jol's tenure - they WOULD make cool custom guitars - JUST NOT FOR YOU. You ask for opaque white, and get told no. Then Tom Dumont comes by, and the next thing you know, he's got a nice opaque white Standard, featured prominently on Jol's blog. Under Jol, it seemed like there were customers, and then there were the unwashed masses.

All I care about is that he's able to chrome plate it and etch in a picture of a naked woman.

Has eBay lost is 'sparkle'?
HamerHokie replied to Willie G. Moseley's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I love board drama! Keep it up. Back on topic - I seldom use Ebay anymore. It's seasonal for me - I sell my leftover football tix there. That's it. Were I to try to pare down my musical inventory, I'd probably sell there because I've had zero luck selling anything here. But ever since they shifted the checks-and-balances to favor the buyer, I've been wary of using it. -
Get better soon!

Hamer Brand Loyalty
HamerHokie replied to Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Considering the title of this thread is 'Hamer Brand Loyalty,' I found this interesting: The number of people here who own zero Hamers is higher than those who own 100% Hamers. In fact, when you segment the data by the two 'mirrors' that add to 100% - 10-90%, 20-80% - the number of people who own the least percentage of Hamers is always higher. I think it'd be further interesting to ask the same question about Gibson and Fender. -
Jol re-surfaces, in Premier Guitar
HamerHokie replied to G Man's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I always wondered if his stance was a 'brand' issue, as if he felt Hamer had some sort of brand association advantage that made it immuned from the whole 'succeed by fill our customers' needs' thing. The only kind of business that can have that attitude is the one that has the market cornered. -
A friend asked me if I wanted to go to that show, hope you get the slot.

Always appreciated his efforts to set up the east coast jams. He's really missed here. RIP.

Marshall 100-watt Plexi stack. I had a piece of it, sort of, a few years back when I had a 30th Anniversary head.
