  1. Was just going to post, "If you could have any Hamer no holds barred, what would it be?" Guess with no more being made, similar thoughts Artist with a Koa top, Bigsby, and Talladega neck profile Sunburst with Dan Armstrong headstock Eclipse with just a a TV Jones Filtertron in the bridge, metal flake finish, and of course a Bigsby. Hmmmmmmm...... I could probably still get this done for less than a custom order by buying a used eclipse and sending it to BCR Greg and Stike. Gonna do it! Sell a guitar or 2 and get this done. In search of a beater Eclipse!!!
  2. Out of print on CD, and I have no turntable to play my old vinyl copy Can anyone burn me one????
  3. Curious how these compare tone wise to a Rickenbacker How is the jangle factor?
  4. Buddy Miller is a big fan of Wandre guitars Some really funky looking "art" guitars from the 60s - rare and can be expensive 5-10k???
  5. Is it ok to use a furniture polish such as Pledge to clean/polish an acoustic guitar? I have a friend who says it does damage to the finish - doesn't make snse to me since it is supposed to be used on finished wood furniture
  6. "I don't see a realistic market at that price point. " All you need is a high profile player to be known for using a certain model. Just look at Gibsons artist models Billy Gibbons Jimmy Page Eric Claptons bluesbreakes gibson etc.. crazy ass prices
  7. +1 on the Jazz III if available
  8. that reminds me of when I was big time into stereo gear, and read Stereophile. They had a review of a "invention" that was called hearos or something like that - it was a leather and plastic device that basically cupped your ears so you didn't have to sit with your hands up to your ears. A buddy of mine got them, they definitely changed what you heard, but nothing I wanted to wear whenever I wanted to listen to music. I guess thats what headphones are for
  9. The above sounds cool - 1 boomer @ the 12th fret to save some bucks. The flat-top Monaco sounds real cool - use the superpro profile instead of the elite almost forgot - make sure it has the Talladega neck profile
  10. I love me some darkburst - beee you teee ful!!
  11. Love the BC Rich Seagull in that last video - my favorite guitar - EVAH !!!
  12. So we wait to see what FMIC does with Hamer. Lets see Fender loves re-issues Maybe we'll be able to get the correct spec Standard, or a '77 Sunburst?? Artist models ?? so for 15 - 25k maybe you'll get a Rick Nielson checkerboard Standard or for 10k a Tom Dumont bulleseye Newport or a Keb Mo Monaco What artist models do you envision?? Could be worse, imagine if Gibs@n owned Hamer and Jol left - what bizarre models would we see?? A Sunburst with the double cut at the tail end of the guitar?? Wait and see, I have NO $$$$$$$ to buy guitars for the forseeable future anyway. Maybe my Pre Fender, or pre Jol leaving guitars will skyrocket in value and I can get stupid $$ for them or maybe they will finally get the respect they deserve on the cork sniffing forums
  13. big + 1 For every Hamer fan lamenting the closing of a USA factory operation, there must be 10 Guild enthusiasts eagerly awaiting handcrafted Guilds coming out of New England again. Fender Music has been pretty conscientious about keeping the brands alive that it bought, but sometimes it requires shifting of resources and rewriting mission statements to keep them all alive. I'd much rather know Hamer was surviving as a custom shop with Jol in charge--even if I can't afford their product anymore--than see them completely shut down I also like Hamer headstocks Not only does PRS have some real high end prices, I routinely see Gibby Les Pauls Not sure of the models (R9 or R7 or something) going used on TGP in the 2-3k+ range. And I think their neck inlays are plastic
  14. Funny, ran into an old friend from high school at an open mic show. Got around to talking gear, and told him I basically played USA Reverends, and Hamers. When I mentioned Hamers, he incredulously asked why??? I said what do you mean? Long story short, he thinks Hamers are pointy metal shredder guitars. I think this is Hamers biggest problem. From a marketing point of view, Hamer never escaped or marketed themselves out of the 80s.
  15. Never questioned or complained about quality - or I wouldn't own 6 Hamers from 96-2008 I wouldn't buy a designer suit for a great price if it didn't fit well. I wouldn't have a custom suit made if the tailor wouldn't do what I wanted from the lapels down to the stitching. If my tailor were only to make suits he likes ( no matter how good the cloth or the construction ) he would probably have a store full of 59 burst suits in stock that he is trying to sell at half price Just saying, I vote with my wallet, as we all should. Would love a new Hamer suit, but I have a suit that has Robin on the label. Not any lesser of a suit, just a different suit made to my specs.
  16. "Anyway, it looks like Fender has had to cut back, cut losses, and play strengths in the current economy. But to their credit, they seem to be doing their best to keep their acquisitions alive to see better times down the road. " If Hamer did the same, we'd have Boomers, Flat top Sunbursts with crowns, and sustain blocks, Standards with correct headstocks, pickups other than Duncans, and finishes other than 59 bursts. Possibly even a shredder or 2. Maybe Jol would start building guitars that we want instead of what he wants.
  17. If you can no longer get them unless they are a custom order........ does this mean our Hamers will become more valuable??
  18. yea, that along with their recent selloff of in house stock at reduced prices may have been a signal towards a different direction. Hmmmm......................" Hamer will become a custom shop exclusively." Wonder if they will become a "true" custom shop or a Henry Ford custom shop You can get any inlays you want as long as theyare victories - or - I'll take 1 with crowns and 1 with boomers or even - I'll take a Standard with the original headstock shape!!! Look forward to some official word
  19. Saw one on evilbay and asked the seller what the neck profile was - he didn't know. Huh????? How hard is it to say medium like a Gibby or Skinny shredder Anyway, what did these tend to be like - on the chunky side???
  20. Was that a real bite, or was it bitten at the factory? Also, do you have x rays of the pickle, and does it come with a C of A. I'm interested if it eats like butter and has tons of MOJO as well. I loves me a modern vintage pickle!! Wait, is that a poly bag??? It makes a big difference in the taste if it is - all the best pickles are wrapped in wax paper.
  21. yay if your band is the white stripes nay for me
  22. Checked it out on Amazon - a wealth of material - a fairly hefty price tag - curious if its worth the $$$$
  23. It's near perfect Just get rid of the victories, replace with dots, and get rid of the gold!!
  24. Yeah, the toggle switch placement was from the twisted grey matter of MR BCR Greg. The other "custom" feature on the guitar is the neck carve. It has a nice mild V, not quite as hefty as the Talladega neck. Sharp eye there, yes it is a Vinetto. Love the V neck on that one as well - light as a feather
