  1. Give it to Jaye so he can rip the whammy bar off of it like Ricky Medlocke does at the end of Skynyrd shows. My favorite part about Confederate Sons so far: no shorts onstage, even on that uncovered flatbed truck! Back in the day, the Mean Reds were in the opposite scenario: the only original band auditioning against cover/variety bands for a 4th of July slot at the Taste of Chicago. I had no clue how we got the audition in the first place, but I certainly didn't expect anything to come of it, as the preference at those types of festivals is to have easily recongnizable/digestible music. So after our 3-song set I took off to go get laid. When I got back to the band house the next morning I found out we won lol.
  2. Jailbreak The Boys Are Back in Town
  3. Again, I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about.
  4. I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about:
  5. Allow me to suggest that the jam take place in the showcase room of Superior Street studios in the city. Soundman and backline w/drums provided (which should cut down on the amount of gear people feel the need to bring) and it's not open to the public. http://www.superiorst.com/showcase.php The venue is on the west side of the city, so don't rule out flying into Midway airport and getting a hotel room near there (even if the jam is held elsewhere this is an alternative worthy of consideration). It just seems a waste to completely avoid all that the city of Chicago has to offer, especially since the plan is to have the reception with Paul downtown. I could see keeping everything in the 'burbs if this were happening in Detroit, because Detroit is a bombed-out wasteland. But Chicago? Sometimes you gotta live a little. And while it would be convenient for Bubba, I strongly encourage that this event not be staged the same weekend as the marathon, unless people want a logistical nightmare.

  7. I was gonna say, isn't the stadium logo worshipped around here? I like the SL on 6-on-a-side headstocks (or 4-on-a-side headstocks for basses) and the Impact headstock. I don't like it on 3+3 headstocks.
  8. A better album than Van Hagar's opening salvo that year? I say yes.
  9. This one caused me to make tracks to the bathroom for some alone time: I'll neither confirm nor deny that Mike Reno was the reason.
  10. Still better than sending a recording of how well your band can nail "Last Dance with Mary Jane." Impressive, but if it doesn't keep the cash register ringing, who gives a shit?
  11. So few people realize this until it's too late.
  12. Great stuff, and more fodder for my confusion as to why a cover band would need a demo CD versus a video like this that proves they can draw a crowd (ideally a thirsty, free-spending one).
  13. Things will go superbly if you use the Studio I sold you.
  14. My Studio is officially sold to Mindseyes. Big Apple Strat still available. Shoot me an offer!
  15. His was a trade offer. Unfortunately I'm looking to cash out and downsize, so keep that bank account available! Sperzel tuners (brushed chrome) are the only modification (originals will be included). Original case, and I'm the original owner. Issues: One ding in the top that's thru the finish but not thru the wood, and the "skunk stripe" wood at the truss rod opening is cracked and coming out of the opening slightly (no adverse effect to neck adjustment). It's in player's condition but still very clean, priced accordingly at $650 shipped. Oh, and my Studio is on hold for the OP!
  16. Two others are interested. I'll get in touch with you if both of them pass on it.
  17. Since I got my SuperPro, the Studio simply doesn't get played. I was never particular about scale length before, but I really do prefer longer scale guitars. Plus, I'm in cash-out mode at the moment. Once the Studio sells, everything in the above photo except for the Marshall head will be gone. And it looks like it will, so since the "no trems or skinny necks" stipulation can be ignored, I'll offer up my Sunset Orange Big Apple Strat to those who are looking for bargains in this thread. For much less than the $800 shipped limit, too:

  19. Glutton for punishment, ain't ya? I opted to install an intonatable TonePros wraparound on my Studio, mainly for The Look™ (the non-intonatable thing is more appropriate for a Junior type guitar IMO). Only issue with it is it has a very high profile; I have it screwed all the way down to the body, and the action is just right for me, but might be too high for most folks:

  21. In my mind, Hamer has always been associated with Paul (what with the name and logo and all). To me, Jol's departure simply means a complete and final disassociation with the past. How that will affect the direction of the brand and the quality of the guitars moving forward remains to be seen. So who's going to be the first to step up and order a new Californian?
  22. What I want to know is, will this thread get more replies than the Taylor Swift one?
